Wednesday Walking With the Reverend Van Slyke

For this week's #wednesdaywalk, as hosted by @tattoodjay, I finally met the infamous Reverend David Van Slyke. Van Slyke, as some may remember, authored a pamphlet in 1886 arguing that Galeville, Wisconsin was indeed the Garden of Eden from the Old Testament. Is it? That's a true mystery (and possible stretch!), but it's fun to think about

After a short walk up a small knoll, I found the sculture of the Reverend at last. I knew it existed, but hadn't really figured out where it was located. I did a bit of research last night and finally figured out the statue's location. I must have driven past it a least 100 times this past year and never noticed it.

I found a small commemerating the sculture tucked away in the flower bed around the piece of art.

And a close up of the man himself. In the right hand he is carrying the Old Testament; the left hand carries the iconic apple of the Garden of Eden. The way of the Left Hand...look out!

I grabbed a photo of the view to scultpture's immediate left, and decided to take a quick walk near the old buidling. Maybe, just maybe, I'd find that apple of gnostic knowledge and break from the simulation. How lucky would that be??

No luck! Just plent of black walnuts scattered about the road and parking lot. Maybe that tree is still somewhere about, ancient and tattered, waiting for me to find it. The hunt will continue, Reverend Van Slyke....
