Monomad Challenge : Rognstad
My entry for the #monomad challenge.
What is it about old schoolhouses? The ones that, when you see them, remind you how different life was not that long ago. This particular schoolhouse, located near Westby, Wisconsin, was built in 1911. It's a one-room school room located near a farming community.
The windows, for the most part, were still intact.
One of the rooms even had a bit of art featured behind it.
There was an old set of wagon wheels nearby:
There was also an old, decrepit outhouse nearby.
How many little ones trudged through this place from 1911 until the 1960's? It's an amazing think of all the lives that were influenced by such a place.
My favorite part of any old school house has to be the bell tower; although long gone, I can only imagine being a child of the 1910's, hearing the bell and excitedly running through the nearby cornfields to get to class (or maybe not so excitedly!)
All in all it was fun excursion to take on a bleak, November afternoon. The stories such a place holds...it's overwhelming to think about.
Thank you so much for stopping by to check out my #monomad challenge, A little history, a little black and white...it's one of the things I enjoy so much about the monomad community.
I do love those old buildings, too. There is definitely something nostalgic about the simplicity of those buildings, and they definitely lend themselves well to black and white!
The older the better indeed...especially when contrasted against the Wisconsin countryside.
this one was my favorite!
i loved the focus with the blurred background it looks really nice
thanks so much...lots of lovely shots in the fields of Westby, Wisconsin, lol
