Beer Saturday : Sketchbook Brewing Company's Night Game
For this weekend's #beersaturday adventure, I grabbed a four pack of an Evanston, Illinois brewer's double IPA to sample at my mother-in-law's place. The craft brewery was only a mine minute walk, so I put on my wool socks, slipped on some sandals, and rocked the "I"m a 45-year-old dad look after a 5 hour car ride with a 5-year-old." Yum...and it was a good decision.
The place was hopping! Next to the Main Street L stop, this place was a lot of fun and had a ton of energy to it. Alas, I'm older (and wiser, I think), so I slammed a beer, grabbed a four-pack to go, and headed home.
This one most certainly wasn't a hazy, but it was strong at 8.8%. The cute bartender had me sold on it however; she mentioned she was Irish, and well...I'm Irish too (remember the wool socks part?), so I went with her pick.
It's very strong. It has a decent enough nose to it. I wasn't able to pick up on any honey notes, and it was a little green yet too. Still, at 8.8%, no complaints!
Overall, I'd recommend this beer to anyone in the Chicagoland area. I'd honestly highly recommend the trip to the brewpub too; it was a fantastic little place to visit. So, while slurped these down, we ordered some authentic Chicago deep dish pizza and enjoyed a final night a few blocks off from Lake Michigan.
Spinach, mushrooms, and sausage...yum! I do love to get the Chicago-style pizza when visiting, and this never fails to live up to the hype. If you ever can get to the great Chicago area, definitely find a solid spot for this style. It's absolutely delicious and most certainly healthy!
Don't worry, we got some pepperoni thin sliced too...Hattie's favorite!
Overall, a wonderful #beersaturday night! It might be the last time we're in the area for a bit, so it was worth the trip.
Thanks for checking out my #beersaturday post. It was a good one for me...I do love to find my local spots to support! Until next weekend...
That looks like an awesome beer man! Love it, and that pizza looks phenomenal lol
It was yummy - I need more it, lol!
I have wool socks, too! I love'em. They're a fixture on my feet in the autumn and winter.
Damn, that pizza looks good. It's 10:00pm and now I'm hungry again.
I wasn't a big Chicago pizza fan, but I have grown to love it. I dare say I'd start one up here in Wisconsin (if I knew how to cook, of course)
