Beer Saturday : Drekker Night Machine

My #beersaturday adventure continued today with another pickup from my favorite local liquor store. Today's pickup was the North Daokoa brewery, Drekker, and a new double IPA called Night Machine.

The artwork on the can is pretty cool. It reminds me a bit of a terminator. There also has to be a pentagram, of course...because all terminators have a pentagram, right?

I looked up the beer on Untappd at the store, and it had a 4.17 / 5.00 rating. The four pack cost over $20 USD, so it must be good right?

It looks great, smells great, it has the perfect ABV at 8.1%, yet...it's that Vic Secret hop again. I don't know what it is about it, but I think it tastes too smokey. The taste is like an intense exotic tropical fruit, but so much so, that it tastes like a smoked beer. For whatever reason, I can't just get into it.

I gave this one a 3.75; sure, it's solid, but simply not my thing. Don't worry, though, I'll drink them.

With the weather mostly rain today, we couldn't grill out. Instead, we bought some freshwater shrimp at the food co-op, pulled some frozen homemade pest from last summer, and made a batch of pasta and shrimp with the assistance of our cast iron.

First, I seared up the shrimp in the cast iron pan:

I then threw in the pesto and some tomatoes:

Finally, we topped it all with some Wisconsin shredded cheese. Yum!

Coupled with the beer, it was a good meal. Honestly, it was a good Saturday, overall, despite the poor weather. Until next #beersaturday, and hoping everyone had a wonderful Saturday too!
