A Sublime Sunday Over a Frozen River

For this weekend's #sublimesunday share, as inspired by @c0ff33a , we took our family visiting from California for a hike in the local marsh. My brother and his family have been living in Cali since 2008, but are moving back to this area come June. Visiting for the holiday season, we decided to take them through our local marsh to give them a preview of all the sights they are moving to.

We walk to an old footbridge that's been here for at least 40 years. It spans a section of the La Crosse River; I think the trail was maybe an old railroad line, but not certain. I most certainly will need to do a bit more research on the area...I mean, I'm supposedly a history buff.

The river itself finally made the annual transition and froze over. I didn't dare walk on the river, for I have a deathly fear of falling through ice, but the views were nice.

With temperatures in the mid-40Fs today, it was the perfect #sublimesunday adventure. A New Year, family, my nieces, and daughter, and spending time in a very special place that means so much to us. As fate would have it, this area is a place where my brother and I spent so much time in as children. To think this place will accommodate similar memories for our daughter and her cousins...I feel very, very lucky,
