A Sublime Sunday in the Quarry
For this weekend's #sublimesunday share, as inspired by @c0ff33a, I ventured out for a 4-mile hike through the nearby abandoned quarry. With a good three inches of snow in the area this weekend, I thought it would be worth a walk in the abandoned quarry to take in the silence. The quarry is serene; spring, summer, autumn, or winter...despite it only being a few miles away from town, the area is always a splendid place to take a quiet moment and hike.
I was taking a few photos for this post of the area but became sidetracked by the contrast of dead native prairie plants contrasted against the fresh snow. Who needs gorgeous landscape shots when you have the sleeping plants to photograph?
Not everything was asleep for the winter; there were plenty of evergreens holding the line nearby.
I even found a little one, holding their own while covered in snow.
The winter here has been on and off for a bit; it gets cold, then warms up, then rains, then snows, then warms up, melts...blah blah blah. It's the cycle of late in this part of the world. Today, at least, I was able to enjoy the snow before it potentially melts away yet again this winter.
On to the next week up here! Thanks for checking out my #sublimesunday post; I do hope everyone had a wonderful weekend too, and plan on sharing another adventure next week. We'll see what this area inspires me to document as the week goes on...thanks for checking out my work, as always!
