Being rejected is a part of life

Rejection is a part of life through which a person can learn many things. Most of the people gets stronger after rejection and many of us come to know our skills and talent after being rejected. There are different modes of rejection but in my opinion, each of them is beneficial for us either it is in an interview or some business proposal or in a relationship. You get to know the loop hole and to work on it or improve the weak portion of yourself. But sometimes, you can do nothing when rejected because this is who you are and you cannot change yourself to be someone else.

Right now, I remember two situation where I was rejected. One of them is way back in 2013, when I had an interview call in E-comm Company. They have a nice office in posh area. I was asked to wait in a conference room. A man with a good build, physics having casual dressing and wearing gold chains, came and started taking my interview. By seeing my resume, he was not amused and started cross questioning that why you do not have any specific field experience yet. I travelled a lot in those years so he was not liking it. He said why should I hire you? You do not focus on any field or it would be waste of time to guide you in E-comm field. I had an experience of working in my brother’s E-comm company in Sweden for six months. So, I was little confident but I was not arguing with him instead just listening to his disrespectful and hurtful words.

He was not at all easy on me, explaining things in a sarcastic way. In the end. I asked him to give me the opportunity to learn and would probably work hard and smart to grow both company and myself. He then handed over his Rolex watch to me and said, assume it as a normal watch and write five points to sell it or convince me to buy this normal watch. I was confused and surprised on such a question for the position I have applied, still I tried to write something. He interrupted in between and said you cannot do it. I was speechless and literally, broken inside to see such humiliation and insult but still I was trying my best not to lose infront of him.

Suddenly, HR lady who called me, came and asked if all is good. He then asked her why I was short listed for content writer. She replied “ he applied for dispatch coordinator”. He then finally rejected me with negative remarks and went outside. I told HR lady that there could be some confusion because he didn’t asked me anything related to operations. She then told me that he is the owner and we are unable to do anything as he rejected you. I smiled and left the place with heavy heart.

Interviews are really important and one should keep on giving interviews even if you do have a permanent job, this is what I believe. This interview of mine was one and only of this kind and I did learn a lot from it. One should not argue but should answer and ask appropriate questions in a very polite way. Also no one has right to humiliate or insult as they have called for an interview after checking the resume and they know the qualification and experience of interviewee. Not every job is for anyone, just as I know I am not a sales person and cannot handle the job perfectly.

We should always take rejection and refusals as a positive sign. I had a story of my rejection for a arrange marriage as well but will share that some other day. That is all for today. Cheers!!!
