Explaining what a smartphone is to someone from the '60s is going to be a very hard task to do because, from my little investigation as to when the smartphone was invented, I realized smartphone was invented in the early 90s which is probably around 1993 to be precise and from my calculation backward, that is like 30 years plus gap before a smartphone was finally invented...

Wow, this is not only going to be difficult, but it is also going to be challenging and stressful because the world of communication and technology has advanced far more than it was in the 60s and 90s, which means even the smartphone that was invented then will be less inferior to the kind of smartphones we have in this 21st century but all the way, it is not totally impossible, all it is going to demand of us is PATIENCE AND TIME...

Just as how we have sharp and brilliant minds in this 21st century, I am sure there are some set of people in the 60s who would also grasp whatever they are being taught easily and quickly, this is just a battle with age and time...

As a once-upon-a-time primary school teacher, I believe explaining what a smartphone is to someone from the 60s is not in any way different from teaching and explaining what and how a smartphone works to children in the primary and nursery section, all that is required of one is the ability to break words into the simplest term possible and from having the idea of how it works, what it does sooner or later they will get the hand of it...

Without wasting too much time on how difficult and challenging it would be to describe how a smartphone is to someone from the 60s, join me as I share some easy tricks on how I tend to make my task simpler and easier and that too
without too much discomfort...

 SEEING IS BELIEVING...

It is indeed an obvious fact that what we see with our two eyes tends to stay longer in our memory than what we hear, so I believe if the goal of this task is to make them understand what a smartphone is, all I have to do is make sure whatever I am explaining and describing to them has to do with IMAGES and PRACTICALS and also with a touch of sound for faster assimilation in the process...

I believe this task is going to be less complex for people who have little or high experience in the teaching field compared to someone who has never been in the teaching field before, it is going to be very hectic and stressful...

I am sure some of us whose parents weren't privileged enough to attend school in their time will understand the complexity and difficulty of this task because when describing you have to use all manner of approaches, especially demonstration...

I believe the best way to describe what a smartphone is to someone from the 60s is to have a clear picture of how a smartphone looks like, with or without a real smartphone, a picture of how it looks like is going to get us somewhere, especially in terms of making them understand it...

There is no need to rush the process, it is one thing at a time, the first step is to draw their attention to what you are about to describe by explaining the functions and advantages to them in a way whereby their curiosity to understand better is awakened...

After giving them a brief summary/intro to what a smartphone is, the next step is to show them what a smartphone looks like either in the form of a picture or in the form of a real smartphone, with this your work is getting easier...

Tell them the basic things a smartphone possesses, things like a battery, sim card, and memory card, don't fill up their head with big words so that they will understand easily, don't forget to take it one step at a time...

The next thing to do is to practically show them it functions, what they can do with a smartphone and how they can navigate their way on it because they will only believe you if they see it with their two eyes...

Show them what it can do and how they can do it, you don't have to teach them all it functions at once, teach them one function for each day or even a week for longer storage in their memory and lastly make sure there is a practical demonstration and description of whatever you are explaining for quick grasping...

I believe the best way to describe how a smartphone is to someone from the 60s is to use primary school teacher strategy which is demonstrations and explanations...

In summary, i believe with time and dedication to the task, in no time they will get to know what a smartphone is and how it works perfectly well...

In conclusion, practical explanation will help them understand better than just the words of the mouth...

One's patients will be put to taste in showing someone from the 69's how to use the smartphone. It is more of practical and taking one step at a time.

You made lots of points here I do wish you well

No doubt, it will be a difficult issue for whoever is teaching someone without any educational background and with patience, we can get the message across to them.

Yes, I agree that old people in the 60s would be crazy to teach! lol but a person born in the 60s just completed or is completing 60 years old in the near future. So It isn't so bad to learn!

Yeah indeed but you can’t compare a 60 year old to 15 year old, the difference is clear and obvious but with patience and time, everything will be made easy .. thanks for stopping by
