Look, Don't Point Your Finger At Me — Nursery School Odyssey

Everyone loves reminiscing about their secondary school days, but we often forget the wonderful experiences we had in nursery school. Maybe it's because we were still figuring ourselves out back then, so it's harder to recall those memories.

However, even if you can't remember your nursery school adventures, I can vividly recall mine, as if they happened just yesterday.

There were so many silly things that every kid loved to do back then. Honestly, I have no idea how those things started or who we heard them from, but they always felt so real, as if we had witnessed them ourselves.

Okay, let's dive into it immediately. I don't want to create much suspense, so you won't scroll past my comedy:)

Back in nursery school, we had these myths that we used to believe. They came from the little things we did to each other, whether it was playing around or getting angry.

One of those myths was about pointing your finger at someone's face, especially when you were having an argument. You definitely didn't want to try that on the big guys in class.

The ones that have the strength to fight will be like

“Why are you pointing your finger at me? Are you the one that gave birth to me?”
And as they're saying that, they would start getting closer to you, and you can probably guess what that meant.

The little girls in the class would say things like,

“Look, don't point your finger at me! my mommy and daddy are still alive.”
If they aren't careful, this could make them cry, just because someone pointed a finger at them.

And then there were those who didn't have much strength, but they made up for it with their sharp mouth.

They would say things like,
“Remove that finger one! Remove that finger two! Remove it three!” They would keep counting to eternity without doing anything.

𝑨𝒍𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕. 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒑 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒍𝒆𝒕'𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕 𝒐𝒏𝒆.

Touching someone's head or forehead:

There was this belief that if someone touched your head, they would take away your wisdom. And if someone touched your forehead, they would steal your star or good luck.

So, who wouldn't fight for their wisdom after hearing something like that? Or will you wait for someone to snatch away your star?
Wait there laa and let some other person shine with your glory.

But remember, these questions are only for those who have strength. Those who don't have strength might just shout or maybe cover their head and sob in the locker. What a pity!

I’m not done yet.

Has someone ever written your full name with a red pen on the back of their notebook?

The fight will go in this pattern:

“Where do you want to take my name to?”
“You must clean it o! Or I will report you”

This myth says that there's a probability that the writer will take that name somewhere, maybe to Idibia (native doctor). There they will call that name thrice and the person will appear. The rest can be explained in Nollywood.

I guess that was also the time I spent 5 minutes looking for my beret, only to realize that it was already on my head.

All in all, I passed through all these and came out a hero.

Looking back at those days brings laughter and joy. It might sound silly now, but believe me, these were serious matters back then.

I may not have been that big, but I still remember it all like it was yesterday. Those are what I like to call my good old days.

Thanks so much for reading. I hope I was able to make you laugh.

Lol, it's so nice to remember some of these myths that were popular during our childhood, just that I recall most of them from my primary as I have little to no memory of my kindergarten days. Even till today, many people don't like it when you touch their head, I guess that myth is firmly rooted in their traditions

I can't fight too. I will only pray in cases like this😂
The worst is when the person burns the paper with your name on it.

But why will adults still believe things like this? Nawa oh.

Thanks, dear for the comments.

Hahaha all this crazy myths didn't really mean anything but it was kind of our mindset Sha
Even while I was younger, pointing a finger at the other person would look as if you have done the worst thing, some people would say you can insult them but don't point fingers at them

you get it correctly, that was how it goes, nobody wants a finger to point at their face, it was something we didn't want to see.
A lot of us cried because of just pointing of fingers.

Lo. This myth looks funny now but back then I can make one crying the who day for those their parents told not to fight and to those that their parent told them that fighting is not sin can go into a fight because of nothing 🤣

“Remove that finger one! Remove that finger two! Remove it three!”

I do this most of the times when I was in secondary school. I couldn't fight but had mouth 😀😀😀 but I won't do anything while counting till eternity and would stop when I am tired. Hahaha.

Most times you start to find something only to realize it's in your left hand 😀😀😀 I could remember many of these as you brought back memories to me.
