Riding the Waves in Nazaré .:. Wednesday Walk Vacation Tour Part 8

avatar

Okay, I have to admit that the tile is a clickbait a bit... I didn't literally ride the waves, but I was in Nazare, and there were waves in the sea... But, instead of riding them, I took photos that I will share with you in this short #WednesdayWalk...

I hope that you are not annoyed by these vacation tour posts... 😀 We are passed half of the trip so far... I promise... 😀 A couple more points to visit, and we are back home... Until then, I will share with you photos and stories from this journey as it was a "trip for remember" and by publishing it on the blockchain, it could last forever! It would be nice to refresh your memory after a while of checking these posts...

01.jpg

So, we have left Lisbon and headed to the North, still in the contrary direction of our home... We have asked the locals in Lisbon (and some friends on HIVE) what should we visit on the way as I like to make stops on my long drives... In my opinion, it's much better to stop in some place like you will see now, than at a petrol station listening to cars on the highway... Yes, you "waste" more time going off the highway, but it was worth every single minute! These views can rest you more than any food, drink, or coffee!

02.jpg

What you can see in this photo is the town of Nazaré and we actually, didn't visit the town itself, but rather the surroundings around the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo... The small fort was constructed in 1577, with a lighthouse...

maps.png
https://www.google.com/maps

03.jpg

We went there as we heard that the views are stunning which is undoubtfully true if you check only the first couple of photos... But wait, there's more... 😃

04.jpg

We parked the car at the top of the hill, as the road was closed to vehicles and you could go on foot, or by using a tuk-tuk (not sure if that's how it is called in English... you will see later in the photos what I was thinking 😃)...

05.jpg

It looks like there are many "sticker lovers" all around the world, and not just on HIVE... :) This traffic sign is almost unrecognizable... 😃

06.jpg

In the photo below, you can see another sign covered with stickers, but on the right, you can see the guy playing an instrument among different plants... It was a kind of message that we can live with nature in harmony!

07.jpg

08.jpg

We are still going down the hill toward the small fort... Nazaré is on our left side, and these awesome views are on our right side! This could be a nice desktop wallpaper!

09.jpg

This awkward sculpture is called Veado statue and we didn't find any explanation about it while we were there, so I had to check the Internet to find more details about it... It is created by Adália Alberto and it is 21ft high (6.3 meters)!! The story about it is a bit long for this post, but it is very interesting and you can check it out here...

10.jpg

Last look at the town as we are going more to the right side of the cliff...

11.jpg

12.jpg

13.jpg

14.jpg

We are getting closer to the fort and closer to the perfect spot for taking photos... Wait, these spots weren't perfect? 😃

15.jpg

16.jpg

Oh, I forgot the main attraction why is Nazaré popular? The main reason is what you can see in the image above... Beautiful, long, big waves... Ideal for surfers from all around Europe and I bet that every surfer has visited this spot at least once in his life! As we were there in early January, I suppose that the water wasn't too pleasant for surfing... 😃

17.jpg

18.jpg

No, that's not me in this photo with a different woman, it's just a random couple enjoying views... Who wouldn't? ...and the beautiful blue color of the sea in the image below is impressive!

19.jpg

20.jpg

As I'm not an expert in surfing or waves, I have no idea how big they were, but they were enough big to create a small rainbow every time... As you will notice, I was trying to take a photo of the rainbow, but not too successfully... 😂

21.jpg

22.jpg

23.jpg

24.jpg

The small fort has part of it that is converted into a scientific & oceanic museum with a surfboard exhibition.

25.jpg

Getting back to the car and taking the last photos of this awesome place... Blue sky, azure blue ocean, long sandy beach, and windmills in the background... I could sit there the whole day, but we had to continue our journey...

26.jpg

27.jpg

28.jpg

29.jpg

Another look at the traffic/sticker sign... How many stickers are there?

30.jpg

And the small merry-go-round near the parking lot where we ate our breakfast/lunch before hitting the road again...

One more place to visit in Portugal and then, back to Spain... Stay tuned...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

It is a paradise for surfers... We were there in January, but I suppose that's why we didn't see many...

Beautiful coastline and fascinating waves, I have to go to Portugal one day, my sister lived there for a while and said that if she really wanted to move somewhere permanently from Slovenia she would go to Portugal. Nice nature like here but more open people. 😎

We are living in Spain for over 11 years, and we have visited Portugal only this year... 😞 Life happens, work, job, empty wallets... lol... But, it is a b
beautiful country worth visiting! I hope I will go back at least once again... 😃

Slovenia is beautiful, too... I hope I will take a few days off and stay there for more than just a few hours... :)

If you go to Portugal, this place is a must-visit! It is on the route from Lisbon to Porto and it's easy to find... A perfect place to take a break from driving... 😉

Nice one, if they still have crypto friendly laws then, maybe I will go for a longer time! !LOL

Huh... I think that I heard somewhere that they aren't that much crypto-friendly as they were 2-3 years ago... 😟

Nice, that's a beautiful sea and beach.
Well, the sculpture is funny to me 🤣. It's the one that will absolutely catch my eye.

You can't miss the sculpture as it's HUGE! And you have to pass by it... It is weird, but the story around it is also odd... 😂

Nice waves, tempting to surf, but cold water. Hehe!

Hehehe... We were there in January, so it was cold probably (didn't try it 😃)... But I suppose that in the summer it is pleasant for surfing...

How fun to see these photos! I was in Nazare years ago, but only in town looking at that hill at the end of the beach. It's fun to see the view from the top looking down to where I was! ♥️

Wow! That's awesome to see the same place from a different perspective! Now I wish I could go back to that beach! 😂 Or, the other one from the other side of the hill...

Stickers feels like home...😂

Capturing gas station isn't much fun, but making a stop breaks like this are worth every minute.

Oh, yes... The good thing in Spain or Portugal is that you can leave the highway and not lose a lot of time to get back as you have "something to see" near the road... In France or Italy, it's not like that... I said those countries as an example, as we go through them twice per year... THe only way to see something there is to sleep over and dedicate at least 1 whole day... 😃 Which isn't a bad option either... 😂

Not sure about France, but I couldn't agree more for Italy - long boring highway and a few vineyards 😂

Hey, thanks for taking us (virtually) with you on your trip to Portugal!

I hope that you are not annoyed by these vacation tour posts... 😀 We are passed half of the trip so far... I promise...

So no, I don't mind seeing pictures of and reading about your trip.
Enjoy the vacation!

Oh, and those stickers are also plenty in Amsterdam I've seen, so indeed something that travelers do I guess.

Heheheh... I didn't pay too much attention to stickers, but lately, I do notice more and more of them everywhere... Not that many like on these photos, but they are around us... In the town where I live and in big cities a lot more... As you said for Amsterdam... It's part of the "culture"...

It WAS a great trip... I was there with my family at the beginning of this year but got so many photos and stories, that I had to split them into "smaller" posts... 😃

That was my first encounter with the ocean... 😃

Wao all these places looks like heaven. By visiting such places, one's mind gets a lot of peace and one enjoys a lot by seeing the natural sights. Standing on a high place to see the sea is its own fun. Happy Wednesday.

It's a pity that I don't know to surf, and even if I do, I doubt I would go in as the water was cold... 😃

I love the ocean and stay about 300 meters from the sea... I can't imagine not living along a coastline... it's just so "lively" and invigorating!
