Morning Walk on the Beach .:. Playa de la Fossa, Calp

Three weeks ago, I shared with you my walk around the Cala La Manzanera and Playa del Arenal - Bol, which was literally one of the "ends" of Calpe... In this post, I will show you the second part of the walk by the seaside, which is kind of in the "middle of the city"... I hope that I will share soon the third part which will cover the last part of the city, so you will have covered all the coastline of Calpe! I bet that some people who live in the city didn't check the whole coast and you will do it! 😃

01.jpg

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of this city, and I had one odd reason for that... lol... The city has these beautiful beaches that you saw and will see, but it also has some ups and down narrow streets... It has the "old town" part, which is in traditional "Spanish style" with very narrow streets, but I avoid going into those by car... lol...

02.jpg

On the other side, it has the "newer part" which is situated all over the hill... A few years ago, I remember going there to leave my wife in a hotel (she was playing piano), and the idea was that I will go back home and come back later to pick her up... As it was at night, I took a wrong turn, and got into the one-way street that led me up the hill!! The street was so narrow that I didn't have a place to turn around the car (+it was a one-way street), so I was driving in the hope to find the street that leads back...

03.jpg

The additional problem was that I had a bad migraine and in combination with a winding road, I got nausea... Long story short, I survived that but had a very bad experience and avoided going to Calpe for a long time... 😂 Just recently, I decided to give it another chance... It would be a pity to miss all these great places at the seaside...

04.jpg

05.jpg

Okay... Back to these photos... You didn't miss anything as last time I was showing you this part, exactly until this part... Where the sandy beach is over and starts this part with big rocks...

06.jpg

Before that, just a short detour with interesting graffiti... :)

07.jpg

What you can see in the image above is Baños de la Reina (Queen's Baths) Calpe, which is an archaeological site... There are different dates online when it was exactly built, but it was somewhere between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD by Romans! The pools are carved in coastal rock and used as a supply of fresh fish...

08.jpg

09.jpg

I decided to take a short tour out of the beach as the promenade was leading to the local port (no worries, you will have a chance to see that on my way back...😃) My detour wasn't random as I knew what I want to see... This is a large lake, literally in the middle of the city, where you can spot different birds, including flamingos!

10.jpg

The water enters from the sea, under the roads, so this water is salty! Because of that, it has exactly what flamingos like the most... The sea shrimp gives their legs that pink color! 😂

11.jpg

If you take a closer look, you will see them in the image above, diving deep to find those tasty shrimps... 😃 As you can see, they are standing in the lake, which means that it's maybe a half meter deep...

12.jpg

...the closest bird that I could take a photo of was this duck... lol...

13.jpg

If you click on the image above, and if you have a good sight, you can read more about the lake...

14.jpg

15.jpg

Some nice reflections in the water...

16.jpg

17.jpg

18.jpg

And we back to the beach... This is the second biggest beach in Calp(e)... Oh, I forgot to explain the name of the city... In this area, we are using two languages, and most of the places have two names... It is Calp in valenciano (similar to Catalan), and Calpe in castellano (Spanish)...

19.jpg

20.jpg

As you can see, it is another sandy beach, similar to the first one, but maybe a bit shorter...

21.jpg

And this is the look at the beach from the other side... Behind that big rock on the left (Penon de Ifach) is the other beach that I showed you in the previous post...

22.jpg

On the other side, you can see this small rocky beach, where I have finished my today's walk and went back... But, this beach was a starting point for the next walk... So, stay tuned...

23.jpg

24.jpg

25.jpg

But, this is not the end of our walk, as I had to go back where I left the car... lol... And I used this time to take photos of parts that I skipped in the first place... 😃

26.jpg

Like this bench colored in Spanish flag colors...

27.jpg

28.jpg

29.jpg

A few more photos of Playa de la Fossa and some youngest playing volleyball...

30.jpg

This is the part that I skipped with doing Salinas de Calp... A small harbor, mostly used for small boats and fishermen...

31.jpg

32.jpg

The proof that fishermen are using it is here... Reds all around the place... 😃

33.jpg

34.jpg

And the place where they are gathering telling stories from the sea... 😃

35.jpg

This is a weird sculpture on the promenade by the sea... It was installed last year and you can find more detail on the image below...

36.jpg

37.jpg

As usual, I got hungry from the long walk, so I went to the local bar to eat something and take a sip of coffee... As you can see, I had great company waiting for some breadcrumbs... 😃

38.jpg

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

All these places looks so beautiful. By visiting such a place, a person feels very happy and forgets the sorrows of his life. Food looks so tasty. The mountains look so much more beautiful the way we see people having so much fun on top of the soil. Thanks for sharing.

Looking at how Spain is also that pretty, I still wonder why some Spaniard moved overseas to a country less developed than them 😁 but at the same time, I can understand with their concern on wage and high cost of living expenses esp in city like Madrid. Maybe it's always, grass is greener on the other side?

Can't answer that question as I moved to live here... But... After 11 years, I would change it for something else... maybe the Caribbean, or something with a better climate? I know that it's almost great, but I know that you will agree with me... we are seeking the perfect... 😃
Jokes aside, I think the reasons are usually money, and for some others, maybe the need for a change...

Oh, your blog makes me miss Calp, Spain. We stayed here twice, in 2021 and 2022. We stayed for a month each year. :D

Oh, great that you were there! We had some friends visit who stayed in Calp a few months ago... It has many German folks coming for vacation, or having their own "second home" there...
When you come next time, let me know to organize a Hive meetup... 😃

hahaha yes. The Airbnb we rented, the owner is from a German family. And English people are a lot there, as well. Too bad, we can't go there now. Our son will start school in September. We usually went there from the end of Sep to Oct. hehe. I'll keep that in mind next time :D

We usually went there from the end of Sep to Oct.

That's the best time for a visit! Not too many tourists, cheaper, and not as hot as in July or August... ;)

yes, being cheaper in those months is the best reason to visit the south of Spain. hehe

It is a great place! You have a feeling of a big city when it's not! 😃

The beach seems small, but fine. Is it public? I think it might be crowded at weekends in summer.

That sandy beach is relatively small... it is almost 1km long, but as there is another one (that I showed in another post) with a similar size, it is enough for the city... Also, there are a couple of small beaches for 10-20 people...
But, everywhere in Spain is crowded in summer! 😀

Oh, you also have the same species of sparrow we have. She was sitting peacefully. here normally they flew away when we get this close to them.

They are probably used to that bar and people coming, going... "Domesticated" sparrows... 😃

Thanks for this photographic tour along the beach.

The photographs are amazing.

Why most of the names has three parts? E.g. Penon de Ifach

I'm glad that you liked the post!
And regarding names, if you translate names, it would be something like: "The rock from Ifach"... or "The city of the pine tree", The old city, etc...
It looks that Spaniards like to "describe" places directly in names... 😃

Thanks! I lived without the sea for 30 years, but I had the Danube... hehehe... So, in some way, I can't imagine life without having a water close... 😃
