HIVE Pump and Small Trading .:. Late Night Blogging

Today HIVE had a nice pump where the price of the token went from $0.5 to around $0.67, which is over 30% in value... As we have already seen this kind of situations from HIVE, most of us expected (and expect) that the price will go down where it was, or at least near that price...

So, the general idea of "using" these opportunities is to sell HIVE high, and later on, when price goes down, buy it back... I have done this a few times in the past, but I have decided to play it a bit differently this time...

HIVE Pump and Small Trading.jpg
Created in Canva.com

My general idea was always to accumulate more HIVE, and I'm still pursuing that goal, but I had something else on my mind for this time... As I'm not in a hurry to gain more HIVE and I don't want to RISK my accumulated HIVE, I have decided to put aside some of the profits into the SWAP.HIVE:SWAP.BUSD diesel pool...

Why is it less risky? Well, I would sell HALF of my HIVE for BUSD, and provide liquidity into the diesel pool 50-50... If I would sell ALL my HIVE and the price stays up, I would stay without the tokens (yes, I would have BUSD, but that's not a "winning option" in my view... 😃)...

I was following market conditions today very closely and compared them with previous pumps that HIVE had... There was a pattern that has been followed most of the time... My main focus was following the trading VOLUME as the main indicator of the TOP of the price in our case... While volume was growing, it was a sign that the price will go up... When it stopped, the price started to fall...

hivevolume.png
Screenshot from https://www.tradingview.com/

If you check the chart above, you can clearly see how volume (bars at the bottom) was declining around 18:00... That was the moment when I sold my HIVE tokens... Not exactly at the top, but very near to it... around $0.657...

On a simple example of owned 2000 HIVE BEFORE the exchange, I will show the possible gains if you were sold it all, or just the half like I did...

Value BEFORE exchange:
2000 HIVE = 1000$
1000 HIVE + 500 USD (value of HIVE and BUSD in the diesel pool IF I have provided liquidity BEFORE the pump)

Value AFTER exchange:
1000 HIVE = 657 USD

Provided liquidity:
1000 HIVE + 657 USD

Example IF the HIVE price pulls down back to $0.50:
1146.3 HIVE + 573.15 USD (value of HIVE and BUSD in the diesel pool)

If I would exchange USD back to HIVE, I would receive 1146.3 HIVE, which makes a total of 2292.6 HIVE, or 14.6%... Which is less than I would gain if I have exchanged ALL HIVE for USD and later exchange it back...

If I exchanged all 2000 HIVE at $0.657, I would receive $1314... When (IF) the price of HIVE goes back to $0.50 and I buy them back, I would receive 2628 HIVE, which would be over 30% in profit...

But, as I said at the beginning, I had an idea to go into the diesel pool which will give me additional profits in the next days/weeks/months... Diesel pools have REWARDS for providing liquidity, but also, they have FEES that are directly paid to liquidity providers!

A lot of people forget about the FEES passive income and the APR which can be very juicy, especially when we have a lot of volatility in the involved pair... At the moment when HIVE was going up and down, the APR (on fees) was over 35%!!! I know that it will not stay on those levels, but still, it is a nice (additional) income source... Today, my position in the HIVE:BUSD diesel pool has earned almost $4... Not too much, but it will continue earning in the future too...

In conclusion, I could earn more by exchanging ALL my HIVE and buying it back later, but I have chosen the long-term solution for my investment... In my opinion, it is less risky and it will "work for me" even when I'm sleeping... 😃 without stressing too much...

Did you use this small pump and accumulate more HIVE? Or have you just sold some of your HIVE?

I have calculated these numbers using Impermanent loss calculator... Also, you can find details about the earned fees for diesel pools on Tribaldex exchange site...

None of this is financial advice... It's just the way how I traded this HIVE pump today...

Thank you for your time,

~ph~

Maybe you will have a second chance as the price didn't fall as much as expected! It would be great if it stays on these levels and we see another pump... 😃

Thanks for the post! I managed to get to the pump yesterday. I swapped my HIVE for HBD on top. And after the rollback, I made a reverse exchange and increased my HIVE.

20 HIVE isn't bad at all! I was trading before, but it was too stressful for me... So, at the moment, I just trade these "safe bets" where I can win both ways... Or accumulating HIVE, or selling some for a higher price... I don't mind either... :)

A pump like this is good for those who hold a significant quantity of HIVE.

Yes, and no... 30% is 30%... If you have a lot, or you have just a few... 😉
It's a great moment for everyone that wants to accumulate HIVE!

If the pump is momentary, the logical decision would be to swap HIVE with HBD and buy back later. However, that's only worth one's time if someone holds a substantial amount of HIVE. I saw the pump last night but ignore it since I only hold 20 plus HIVE in my wallet. The difference is insignificant.

I do understand your point, I was just saying that for someone $1000 is nothing, and for someone else, $10 is a life-changing amount...

When it comes to trading or Passive income, I would probably gladly choose passive income. Since there are risks and others factors involved in trading and playing safe is what matters at the end. While I do agree, I have tried to take profits in the past and it has been so far amazing. This small pumps have been very sweet and kind of like a money making machine out of thin air.

While I am not really a big fan of pools. Unless I am to go big chunk in them. One of the main reason is impermanent loss. And initially it will happen but long terms stay in the pool is definitely worth it. If I ever have free money to spare, I would probably dive in one of those pools and just collect the APR's and not look at the balance anyway ;)

By the way, one of my goal as well is to collect HIVE and few other hive related coins as much as possible. It has become like an addiction to me lol. But at the same time working on this small pumps and making use of them does comes in handy.

I'm 100% with you about this... Trading is stressful for me and I'm doing only these small trades lately... just to avoid stress (and risk)...

While I am not really a big fan of pools. Unless I am to go big chunk in them. One of the main reason is impermanent loss.

Also, I agree with you on this, but... I am using liquidity pools, but only for specific pairs where I don't care about the impermanent loss... The imp. loss is inevitable, but if you find the pair where you LIKE both assets (in my case it's HIVE-BUSD pair), I really don't care about the imp. loss... In that specific case, what can I lose with imp. loss? If the price of HIVE goes down, I will have more HIVE, which is awesome! If the price of HIVE goes up, I will have more USD, again, great... :) And in the meantime, I'm earning rewards + fees... For me, that's a win-win scenario...

On the other side, I agree with you that there is no sense to invest in LP on certain pairs where shitcoins are involved... That's a pure loss...

Cheers!!!

Thank You for this informative post. I have been freq trading like that with much success and currently am trying to learn and investigate a bit more about various pools. Awesome info.

I call these "safe trades" as in 99% HIVE price goes back (or close) to the previous price... And if not, that's great, I have a lot more HivePower in my wallet :)

Regarding pools, try to pick some pools where you "like" both assets... In that way, you will not care about impermanent loss, which is the biggest downturn of liquidity pools...

Nice to see it got pumped to above $0.5 again. I just hope it'll be always above $0.5 ( I know it won't happen like this) !LOL

In the current market state, I have to admit that I'm more than happy to see HIVE around $0.50... If we take a look at other tokens, HIVE is doing pretty well! But, when the market flips, I wouldn't be surprised to see HIVE around $1 (or more)... That's the reason why I'm so aggressively accumulating HIVE... But, that's just my opinion and speculation and not financial advice 😃

I missed this pump & dump. When I saw it, HIVE was already halfway down. But I like your solution with the SWAP.HIVE-SWAP.BUSD diesel pool. And you can earn in the diesel pool regardless if it's a pump or not, both from the fees and from the BXT rewards.

I think that pool is perfect for you as your goals is to accumulate HIVE and HBD, so the pool is a win-win for you :)
