Altea Green Path Walk .:. Caminos de Altea

avatar

The small town Altea is the closest to my place and very often, when I go for my daily walks, I go into its "territory"... It is a very old town that dates from the early 13th century and it has some very unique and old buildings... Just to put that in perspective, the area where I live didn't exist at all just 60-70 years ago... It was just a bug orange plantation...

I have "done" this walk in early November, but I didn't find time to publish it since then... I have many other walks stored in photos on my disk and I hope I will have time to share them with you guys... And there is no better place to do it, than here in the #WednesdayWalk community run by @tattoodjay!

01.jpg

So, the day was awesome as you can see from the photos and it was a pleasure to walk around the seaside... I think that the same day I went to this beach bar that you can see above... or it was a few days after... not sure... But, I'm sure that the hamburger that I had eaten was tasty!!!

02.jpg

As it was the end of the "top season", there weren't too many people on the beach... These banners were there just a few days after I took the photos... They show different "points of view" of the town...

03.jpg

04.jpg

Traditional windows and roofs in town... Also, this photo looks like a perfect entry for the #ShadowHunters community here... 😃

05.jpg

It is an old fishing town with an old tradition that is still alive... Inside the port, there is a fish market where you can buy fresh fish every day!

06.jpg

07.jpg

Ah, those stone walls... I have photographed them many times and posted them in my Actifit reports in the past... Tetris in real-time... 😃

08.jpg

Interestingly, this banner with a soccer goal was just a few meters from the spot where it is... Spaniards are crazy about football and almost every beach has some kind of goal for this game (or the small ones, or like this one in the size of a handball goal)...

09.jpg

10.jpg

Of course, if you have spare imagination and creativity, you can do some cool photos like this one... A girl covering her face with another face (front page of a book), sitting on a beach... In the background, you can see the neighboring town Peñón de Ifach...

11.jpg

12.jpg

I was heading in that direction, but I didn't get to it as it's impossible to go walking by the sea to that point... My next stop was a place where the small river kisses the sea...

13.jpg

Sometimes, when there is more water, you can't walk through this spot as the river is entering into the sea... But, this time, it did that in secret... Under the stones... So, I could continue my walk...

14.jpg

15.jpg

Tried to zoom in ducks, but the result isn't a good photo... As I didn't have anything to bribe them (to eat), they didn't want to come closer... Why waste their time on me? 😃

16.jpg

17.jpg

18.jpg

When I crossed the river, I went back into the town... Ironically, towns and cities by the sea have problems with fresh water... So, people who lived in this area had to use wisely the water that they got from the mountains and use it to the maximum... They have built a long "network" of small canals inside the town which people were (and still do) using for different purposes (today mainly for irrigation)... But, in the past, there was a large number of water mills and the photo above shows how this one looked...

19.jpg

20.jpg

This train station is still working and if you are traveling from Denia to Alicante, you will pass by...

21.jpg

Directly on the other side of the new station, you can see the rest of the old one...

22.jpg

Oh, I did mention the green path in the title of the post and I have "connected" to it at this point... There are 3 tourist paths in Altea that can take you on a tour through the oldest "streets" of the town... It's cool to imagine how it looked without all the other buildings that were built after...

23.jpg

24.jpg

25.jpg

The green path took me back to the seaside...

26.jpg

...and one of the chirringuitos (bar on the beach) which you can maybe recognize as I have already done a post dedicated to them... Most of them are closed in winter, waiting for warmer (and longer) days... They will re-open again next year in March-April...

That will be all for this walk... I hope you liked it and see you in the next one!

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

Looks like a beautiful day by the water

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, I always love seeing all the walks shared from around the world, but as I am not getting out for as many walks at the moment because of feeling the cold I am especially loving the walks all around the world its like a virtual world tour

Yes, it was a beautiful day... After that day we have 2-3 weeks (or more) of bad weather when it was impossible to enjoy the walks... Luckily, the weather is again nice and I can stash up new photos for future posts! :)

Thanks for moderating this awesome community!!!
