We Are Becoming Cyborgs
At this point, I might as well be a cyborg, with my phone being an extension of myself. There's really never a day that I don't use it. And even though people around me try to fault me for giving so much attention to this piece of technology, I refuse to lose sight of why I do what I do.
You see, there have been times when I felt like I should take some time off technology and just do other kinds of things. When I try to do that, however, it feels nearly impossible. Okay, it's not "nearly impossible," but the point is that it really isn't very feasible on most days.
I grew up used to interacting with gadgets, mostly mobile phones and PCs, and I have gone deeper into having my life intertwined with them, especially in the last seven years. From staying informed to being more productive to earning remotely, my everyday devices—particularly my phone and PC—continue to be essentials that play a crucial role.
The world's gone digital, and to keep up with the world requires that one be conversant with "what's happening," or else they'd be left behind. And so, I spend most of my time connected with my phone to achieve a wide variety of things daily.
I can do hundreds of things with my smartphone alone now. Okay, perhaps not literally. And so I often have it in my hands most of the day, or it is the first thing I look at when I wake up, as well as the last thing before I retire for bed at night. It may not be the healthiest of practices, but it might very well continue that way until I attain certain levels of stability in many aspects of my life.
PC or mobile phone, I am usually in places like Hive, Discord, WhatsApp, YouTube, X, Netflix, ChatGPT, Lichess, and Spotify. The list is way longer, actually. And so my screentime is usually massive each day.
Accounting for just my phone alone, I'll say my screen time is usually around 12 hours. When I think of it as being half a day, I realise it's no small amount of time spent in front of screens. I may have been spending a lot of time watching films on Netflix these days, though.
I looked through the stats of my screen time on my phone and found something surprising. Discord often has a high percentage. Well, it's not that surprising, actually, as most people know I love Discord and using it. My Discord activities are often Hive-related, however, so it makes sense to see similar stats on my browsers.
Today turned out to be a really good day. I mailed my workouts today (even though I wasn't feeling like it initially), rested well, and did a couple of things offline for the weekend. To still find that my screen time was about 12 hours made me realise how involved my phone is in my daily life.
I really don't experience adverse effects from how much time I spend on my phone looking at my screen. There may be some days when I'd need to rest and not stay on my phone, but they aren't frequent.
There's a reason why the sky is blue. It's because the atmosphere protects us from the blue frequencies in the sunlight by bouncing them off. Blue light isn't great for our eyes. I know this, so I use "reading mode" regularly, especially at night.
That puts less strain on my eyes when I use my phone at night. The colour theme becomes warmer and much more comfortable for me to look at my screen. And there's an extra feature, Paper, that makes my screen look more like, you know, paper.
As long as I get enough sleep, do not strain my eyes, maintain productivity, and earn with my mobile phone, my screen time isn't an issue for me. A man's got to do what he has to do to thrive.

Hey jay, that's so much time you are spending on Netflix there, really? Don't it consume so much data? Well anything to make you feel well is fine 😍
And then chrome and discord activities, perfectly understandable
Now almost 12 hours in a day? Haha 😆😂
I feel shy to share mine... really, I do spend much time too.. it's really difficult to stay away from what pays our bill.. perhaps when we attain some certain financial level, we get to adjust naturally 🤗
I spend money on Netflix and internet subscriptions to use Netflix, but no, it's not costly. To me, anyway. I enjoying watching films a lot, so I don't mind. The reviews I write every week helps me sustain it.
Please, share your screen time, Sweet Nkem. 😁 I am actually curious about yours, out able mother of three little men. But I expect it to be close to mine sha, around 10 hours.
Avoid me jay 😌😌😃😀
We're living in the time wen afraid of cyborg will takeover soon without realizing that we've became one. !LOL

That's the absolute truth there, man. We don't realise it, but we are actually becoming cyborgs.
That's actually Call of Duty Mobile you see in the thumbnail.
I expect you to have a lot of screentime considering how active you are on X and Hive. And, yes, I do have a Netflix subscription. I enjoy watching films.
I'm lucky in the sense that we are not allowed to take our phones in universities and we spend almost 6 hours there that helps me reduce so much of my screen time but other people are really so addicted to it that they do emails on it, watch drams on it, play games on it, and many other things.
12 hours are really much man try to control it or try to make it little less.
Woah. You aren't allowed to use phones in you school? That interesting. I didn't know schools could do that. What are you studying?
I'm not talking about school but university 😂 and i doing graduation in business administration...
Isn't it cool that universities students are also not allowed to bring phones along with them🤣🤣
Yes, I meant university when I said school. They are used interchangeably here, that's why.
I think it's cool, actually. I just wonder how they are able to pull that off. It would be almost impossible to implement over here.
Me and my mobile are 5&6. I tried a breakup, even wrote I was taking a break, I found myself coming back 😂. It's only because we do important things with them
Popped in from #dreemport
Oh, yes, man. We now do important things on our phones to leave them for so long. Many of us make our money with our phones, so how can we leave them?
We can't oooo
being all day with technology is part of most people's lives, I'm sure we all have something interesting to share, thanks for describing your day to day with technology and devices.
#dreemerforlife
Indeed. That's the world we live in now.
ooh I love the sound of the paper mode!!! I don't think I have that on my phone. Is it specific to your phone brand? I do use the automated switch to warmer colours at night though and I have my blue light filter on too. Everything helps to reduce eye strain at a time when gadget use is so prevalent in our lives.
I dropped in from Dreemport today.
#dreemerforlife
Hmm... I use Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. I am not sure if Paper Mode is available on all kinds of phone. I only know of Xiaomi's phones. What phone do you use, Sam? Maybe I can look it up. I always appreciate when you drop in.
Thank you o o o o .
I just hope I will be able to do without my phone but it looks impossible sha.
Yeah. It is hard for most people, and that's understandable.
