France Trip 2023 | Marqueyssac gardens

France-#4.jpg

While staying two nights at our B&B, La Rossillonie, we had dinner in the little town of Beynac each night. There's really not much too the town, it is right on the river, as you can see from one of our venues below and then it goes uphill towards the castle. Cute, narrow roads to roam for an hour or so.

In case you're interested, here are the previous posts of this journey.

Every now and then we had to stop the car so I could take pictures of the brightly blooming poppies or other interesting details like the tiny fern in the many stone walls we passed.

Soon we were on our way west back towards Bordeaux and, more importantly, to our next B&B. But first, we stopped by the

Marqueyssac Gardens

They are just a little south east of Beynac and also up on the top of the hills. From the top, you had a beautiful view and in the distance, you could see these houses built into the cliffside, La Roque-Gageac (you can see it on the little map).

The next photos are cropped in so that you can see those houses better. Amazing, isn't it?

And then it was time for the Gardens. Quite the different kind, a manicured garden. I'll let you scroll through the pictures because there's not much to say. It is definitely not the kind of garden I'd like to have but it was very different and cool to look at and wander through.

I'm really glad we checked out the Marqueyssac Gardens as I don't think we'll see anything similar here in the US. Also, just imagine the amount of work that goes into maintaining all these bushes... you can't really tell from these pictures but the gardens are quite big. If you follow this link to their official website you will see some footage of the gardens from the air which is fascinating.

Till next time!

Have a great rest of your day!

Cheers,

What an incredible travel destination! I loved France. I was there many times in my 20's when I lived in the UK. We used to drive over for a weekend. But I've never seen these picturesque gardens. And those buildings against the rock . Wow! Imagine the history that little village could tell

You and me both. When I lived in Germany many vacations were spent in this beautiful country. It is also so diverse from Brittany to Cote d'Azur...
Living in the US now, I have missed those old towns immensely. Walking those narrow streets, looking at the small (or big) stone houses, and letting the imagination flow. I'll have to come back to my France posts a lot - hahaha

Yes, it sure is. Well, France is pretty big so from east to west is quite a few hours of travel no matter which way you go. But it's definitely worth it, so if you have the chance - go!

Again, you have given great impressions of your trip to the southwest of France.
by the way: Tomorrow there is fresh asparagus with smoked fish and Parma ham

Na, dann hoffe ich mal, dass ich den Post nicht (wie so viele andere) verpasse. Obwohl - hier gibt es ja eh keine Spargelsaison 🙃
