France in monomad - my (not so) daily dose of b&w
For the past year or longer, I have been neglecting, hmm, let's just say - photography. Yes, I have been taking photos, mostly with my iPhone, and posting them here and there but I have not taken many photos with my camera (until our France trip) or edited photos.
Lately, I have been feeling the urge to use Lightroom and Photoshop again and I even found myself looking at model photoshoot opportunities. Haven't put any on the agenda though - yet. But with all the recent photo sorting from our France trip I thought to take the opportunity and spread some
Black & White Love
What better subject than some of the old Bordeaux architecture? Like the Miroir d'Eaux in the center of the city, a place where young and old run through the cm shallow water to have fun while (im)patient photographers wait to get a good shot - hahaha. I wasn't so eager to get a perfect photo but I got at least one without people in it. I'll admit that it did take a little waiting though.
On the above picture right in the middle is this big and beautiful fountain with so many details on the different sides - the shade it gives was also very welcome.
When walking the streets of NYC you are used to always look up, up, up to the skyscrapers. Not so much here in old Europe. But there are tall buildings and even the not so tall ones may surprise you with the ornate details decorating their facades. So, look up - and down as well, as you might miss the good stuff!
You may remember this bridge from my last post (check it out for the color version) when we were driving in the Perigord and I wanted to stop to take a few shots of it. For this post I converted the picture to monochrome but gave it a sepia tint to complement its yellowish stones.
We were standing on top of the bridge and looking at the slowly flowing waters of the river Vezere making the algae sway left and right with its flow. It was really beautiful and calming to look at. Only when I opened the photos in Lightroom and experimented with b&w conversion the real beauty (IMO) came out.
The light at the time, almost noon, was very harsh and the sun reflected off the water but the riverbanks covered by the bushes were in deep shadows = less than ideal.
I decided to work with it and even increase the contrast between light and shadow and I also gave the the b&w a cold, slightly bluish tone to round it off. I'm sure this photo would turn out great as a print on metallic paper...
Oh well, not enough space on the walls for all of them.

The first picture with that reflection of the place seems beautiful to me, without a doubt the rest of the pictures are also beautiful, but that is my favorite one.
That central place in Bordeaux, Place de la Bourse, is very beautiful so I'd say almost every photo of it will be as well. Thank you for your kind words.
The first picture, the classic with the "Place de la Bource and the mirror fountain", the last picture I like very much, it has something mystical, almost eerie about it. Verry good
