Splinterlands - Social Media Challenge: The power of stun!

stun.jpg

Hello everyone, it's a good day to make another Splinterlands blog post because it's raining almost the whole day in my country today! 😅
Welcome back to my Splinterlands Blog, today I will be making a new post for this weeks Social Media Challenge so I hopefully get some upvotes and earn a little extra to buy more cards with.
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, you can read the Splinterlands post here.

This weeks Social Media Challenge is the same as last weeks:

🔥 Share Your Most Remarkable Splinterlands Moments: Do you possess a battle of epic proportions that deserves to be seen by all? Have you crafted something extraordinary within the Splinterlands realm? Maybe you've got profound thoughts, insights, or strategies related to stats, cards, abilities, or gameplay that are waiting to be shared? We want it all, and we want it to be nothing short of AMAZING!

And again, remarkable moments enough in the Splinterverse to write about, two days ago we received the second part of the ranked battle overhaul going live, that's a pretty big moment for the players and the game itself. We no longer earn chests we can open, but instead we earn points called glint, we can use to buy different items in a new shop with, which gives us a little more options what to choose, high players can now buy low value card draws comparable with bronze chests, or low players can save up their glint to buy more expensive card draws with and have a better chance in pulling those nice epic and legendary cards.

You can read everything you want to know in the official Splinterlands post here.

But this is a big topic on itself, and it deserves a seperate post so I'll maybe make that later when there's been some tweaking on the glint we receive because I think we should receive a little more to get a comparable amount of cards we used to receive before these changes in the chests, and Matt already posted they're going to look how and where to adjust or improve this update.

This weeks topic:

The topic for my post this week is a much overlooked opportunity, most players just tend to ignore this ruleset and focus on the other combined rulesets if there are any, or just treat the battle as a standard ruleset battle, but when you make use of it, you can hit your opponent so hard he doesn't know what hit him, and the battle is over before he knows it!

I'm talking about the Heavy Hitters ruleset, where all monsters gets the Knock Out ability, doing double damage to stunned opponents, I like to use two splinters for this strategy:

The first one I like to use is the Water splinter and use Sultry Barmaid for delivering the stun, the Water splinter also has a magic card with the Stun ability, the Water Caller, but she is much slower and I only own her at level 1, only doing 1 magic damage, so the Barmaid is the better choice for me at the moment. Because of the Ambush ability she fires before everyone else having a chance to stun right away, and then again in the first round, you have to be a little lucky that the stun lands of course but this way, you have a chance for that twice. 🙂

The second option I use is the Death team, depending of the other combined rulesets or availability of one of the two splinters, the Revealer also has Immunity which is nice in poison rulesets, but of course it's very rare to get a poison / heavy hitters ruleset. With both options, it's important to focus your fire at the first position, so that if the tank gets stunned, you're other monsters are going to do massive damage to take the front cards out very fast.

Any good post about a strategy requires a battle to share and visualize it of course, so I have saved a nice one for you all...

The Battle I want to share for this post is a battle a few days old, from the last season in the old format where we still earned focus chests, I started the season in the Wild League and pushed to Diamond I with my Gold deck, a lot of rating inflation there and a BIG difference with Modern, where I struggled to even reach Gold III, in the last days, when I hit Diamond I in Wild, I switched to Modern and started my battles there to earn a little extra SPS. This weeks battle is a low mana battle of only 18 mana, with a combined ruleset of Holy Protection and Heavy Hitters... You can benefit from the Holy Protection ruleset to put a lot of small monsters in your team to get extra hits, in the best case put 6 monsters on the board. Only the Fire, Water and Death splinters are open to choose from, for me this wasn't a hard choice, Fire is a no-go because it's way too slow against water, Death could have been an option too, but I picked to water team for this fight.

First look at the battlefield:

Yikes! Even this late in the season, there are still max level players lurking in Modern Silver League, but of course Bronze and Silver players will think the same about me, being a Gold player...
Is it the bots or battle helpers why Modern is so hard at the moment? I really don't know, but there's a LOT of difference between fighting in both formats at the moment!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Kelya Frendul - reason: Speed and armor is nice, with low mana it doesn't make sense to pick a legendary summoner.

  • First position: Cruel Sethropod - reason: Low mana with good armor and HP.

  • Second position: Tide Biter - reason: Low mana, good speed and damage, the Reflection Shield can sometimes unexpectedly save your ass against Thorns or Blast.

  • Third position: Torrent Fiend - reason: Just a filler to make use of Holy Protection.

  • Fourth position: Sultry Barmaid - reason: Stun delivery.

  • Fifth position: Igor Darkspear - reason: Good damage and HP for only 2 mana.

  • Sixth position: Chaos Agent - reason: Sneak protection.

The Battle:

Round 1: The Stun got delivered in the Ambush fase, so the rest of my team could take out the Xenith Monk with double damage very fast, killing it before it got a chance to heal, my Chaos Agent is doing it's job perfectly by dodging a few sneak attacks.

image.png

Round 2: The Stun landed again on Ureaus, being the next victim of my strategy, the Tenyii Striker is a little harder because of it's speed and dodge ability.

image.png

Round 3: As expected my team is having a little more difficulty killing the Tenyii Striker and it dodged two attacks, this high level Striker has the Backfire ability, damaging my cards when they miss, good thing the Stun landed again, so one more hit from Tide Biter will finish him off, with 5 speed against is has a good chance in landing its attack this round.

image.png

Round 4: Yep! the attack landed, killing Tenyii Striker, with Xenith Archer at the first position, unable to fire the battle is decided, and the next shot from the Barmaid landed the stun again making a fast finishing kill for my team.

It's always nice to win against higher level opponents, especially with my whole team still standing!

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

Well, that's it for now, this weeks Battle Mage Secrets Challenge hasn't launched yet, and I used up all my battle energy so I have to wait until Saturday before I can play and make my next post again, I hope to see you later!
