Splinterlands - Battle Mage Secrets: Broken Arrows, by @nozem01

Good afternoon fellow Splinterfans, and welcome back to my weekly Splinterlands blog, I started the day by making a Social Media Challenge post, you can read it here. It's about a nice strategy in the Little League ruleset, where it even defeated a Waka Spiritblade team, one we don't see very often in Bronze and Silver league!

This weeks Battle Mage Secrets challenge is about the Broken arrows ruleset, so basically it's no archers allowed AND expect magic!
To find out how you can participate in the challenge yourself, check out the official Splinterlands post here.

This is what the Splinterlands site says about it:

Units with ranged attacks cannot be used.
Units with 2 types of attack (which include ranged) cannot be used.
Consider utilizing units with Thorns or Magic Reflect, as your opponent will have to use either melee or magic units.

Good advice!

After doing my first blog post, I needed to bring all the cans I found in the last 2 weeks to the store to collect the deposit money for it, I started a cool little project last year where I collect the cans I see for money, and buy SPS for it, real life meets the Splinterverse 😃 you can read more about that here. Last month I found just over €15 worth of cans, literally money found on the streets, and I bought 605 SPS for that 🤑.

Battle Mage Secrets Weekly challenge

Okay, enough smalltalk let's get on with the main topic for this weeks, a glorious battle!

The battle I want to share for this week is a 48 mana Wild League, Broken Arrows / Counterspell battle with the Fire and Death splinters locked out... so the most obvious choice here would be to go heavy armor and thorns and get a big melee team, Djinn Chwala! and to think what we can expect more in a heavy melee team with this kind of a mana cap is some very strong opportunity or sneak monsters... So we could either go for such a team ourselves, OR build a team to counter the most probable team the enemy will choose, it's not all about winning but also about having fun, and in my opinion the probability was pretty high I would see a team like this, I decided to make a counter to that, so I need taunt to protect myself a bit against opportunity or sneak, and I need Shatter to break Chwala's armor and kill him as soon as possible... Immortalis it is!

First look at the battlefield:

Nice! My opponent did the expected, most logical thing, and I have to say he made a nice team for this combined ruleset, Thorns, nice reach secondary tank, two strong opportunity attackers, back line protection with a lot of HP, it's only weakness is the healer is pretty vulnerable, but of course protected for 1 hit with the armor the summoner brings.
It's also nice he brought inspire to give Kulu Mastermind the fifth attack point, and running into my Taunts Force Field, doing only 1 damage 😁, looking at this, I'll probably be okay, hopefully the Taunt lives long enough to keep Grund alive so he can wreck the other team, Double Strike with shatter is very effective, but so is Thorns against Double Strike, doing 4 return damage.

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Immortalis - reason: Shatter and Void to protect my magic team against the Spell Reflect.
  • First position: Grund - reason: Very high damage tank, you HAVE to support with Taunt imo.
  • Second position: Mycelic Slipspawn - reason: Taunt.
  • Third position: Sand Worm - reason: High damage sneaker, too bad it's slow.
  • Fourth position: Goblin Psychic - reason: To heal Grund.
  • Fifth position: Spirit Hoarder - reason: Triage to heal my Taunt.
  • Sixth position: Regal Peryton - reason: Evasive sneak protection.

The Battle:

Round 1: As planned, Chwala was killed very fast, and the secondary tank is also badly hurt, but so is Grund, Carnage Titan is hitting first because it's Legendary, but it won't kill Grund, it's going to be the last thing he does...

Round 2: Thanks to the Taunt, Grund is still alive, the other team can't get trough my Taunt / Triage while they get torn apart by my team, as planned 😁

Round 3: Sandworm finished the job, the first time I think it was able to hit something, sometimes it's bad that it's so slow but it's great in reverse speed rulesets.

Not a lot of SPS but that's expected in Wild, just farming chests when winning in Modern is just too hard.

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

That's it for this week, see you next week!
