RAGE -WHEN TO LET GO....

avatar
(Edited)

Have you ever been in a situation that is so difficult for you to let go of? A situation that even people around you can testify to your positive action but yet, you are treated wrongly and wouldn't want to let go but instead retaliate?

I understand that we are different humans who manage our emotions differently. However, the way we react to things and manage our emotions when a matter arises could cause further damage but we could try to calm the raging storm.

Anger is an emotion that can be used to express ourselves when we are upset but it becomes dangerous when it gets out of control.

I wouldn't pretend that I am very good at managing my emotions like anger anyways, but I try a bit to reflect on the possible consequences of my actions whenever I am upset and want to act! This may sound so sweet in the mouth to say but you and I know that it's not always too easy especially when someone intentionally pisses you off, you may not be in the mood to think back and front before reacting but it's necessary if you can👌.

So back to my title, when to let go.... I had a very terrible experience yesterday on my way to the Bank for some transactions. I had left my house so early to round up with whatever I planned to do in the Bank and return home fast for other activities but then, it never happened as planned. Leaving in Lagos state Nigeria, your daily plans especially when it has to do with movement on the road are never guaranteed to fall in place due to the terrible traffic jam on the road almost daily. So yesterday happened to be one of those days I was stuck for hours due to traffic, I can say that many Lagos residents are becoming used to this traffic issue, and passengers have also learned to relax inside the boarded vehicle without complaining any longer and be hopeful to arrive at the destination when it's possible. However, the traffic issues have made lots of Lagos drivers drive recklessly at any given space.

I was in public transport, seated beside the vehicle window observing the traffic, a lot of vehicles are in the queue, waiting for an inch of movement. So by the time a little space was out for some vehicles beside ours to move, a family man driving his car with his wife and children moved from the back to close the space since the bigger car which was supposed to close the space remained stagnant. It's a normal way of surviving traffic jams here in Lagos after all, no one owns the road alone. So the driver with the bigger car said nothing until another space was out, hmmm....with anger, and at a very high speed, he drove intentionally hitting the driver with his family, it was so obvious that the driver was looking for trouble, he crushed the other vehicle's side mirror plus other damages by the side of the car. It was so bad to the point that the driver with his family couldn't open his door immediately. He was screaming, begging the other driver to stop damaging his car but then, a lot has been damaged already. It wasn't so long, the other driver with the bigger vehicle saw some space and drove in front seeking to pack his car and probably hide because he knew exactly what he has done.

Everyone of us in the public car was calming the driver with his family down. Looking at him, he was so depressed, I noticed that the other driver with the bigger vehicle is one of these drunkards who smoke as well, he looked so rough and irresponsible and these are categories of people that love creating trouble while driving. I told the family man driver to please calm down and let it go... it's not easy yes, but fighting that type of human being is a waste of time because I know their type. The family man driver told me that he won't let go because he has no money to repair his car and that he hasn't paid his children's school fees because of money and now these damages. Other passengers in our vehicle pleaded with him as well, they told him to consider his children and wife before fighting but he was pissed off. The moment he was able to open his car door, he rushed to the front to fight the other driver but guess what? He returned with blood all over him🥲. I felt so bad for the man, they injured him with sharp objects, so apparently, those types of guys drive with sharp objects looking for whom to fall prey. Only if the family man listened to us, now it's additional health expenses. It didn't end there, he quickly entered his car and drove with speed to pursue the same big car again after injuring him, and in the process, he hit another person's car 🥲. You see, out of anger which he couldn't control, two extra ugly situations happened.

When to let go....

There are some times we can just try to overlook some situation if possible, even when we are not supposed to. Yes, we have fundamental human rights but some situations like this experience I shared here require that we let go! It could be a different situation you find yourself in but whichever, we should always be conscious of our environment and know when to let go to have peace of mind. To me, my peace of mind is a luxury, it might be so difficult to let go sometimes but instead of the situation to birth another ugly situation, why not let go and save the day!*.

If you read up to this stage, thank you so much for reading ❤️🤗🥰

This is my first time posting in this community and I hope I didn't break the community rules.

It's usually said that two wrongs can never make a right. The driver did a very bad thing hitting his car, but at the very most hurling expletives at him would have been way better than coming out to fight.
So in the end it's not just his car that was damaged, he got bloodied, which would still cost more money. The same money he was trying to prevent himself from spending. And not just that, the psychological trauma that has been inflicted on his wife and children, watching their husband and dad respectively wounded like that would be for a very long time, imprinted on them. Letting it go would have saved a whole lot of things. Rather sad.
Sometimes we wish we shouldn't see things like this but they happen everyday. Let's learn to let go.
Nice write up.🌺

Wow, you really understood my point here 👌👍. I understand the young man, no one acting under anger get it right at that moment. However, it's usually not easy but the best action remains to let go!

I so much appreciate this feedback 🙂

Many thanks for taking your time to read and comment 👍🤗🥰

Wow! It must have been a very terrible experience for him.
I've also seen so many cases like this on the road and I can tell that it's very difficult to let go, especially when the trouble maker refuses to admit they are at fault.
But releasing his anger on the road like that would never have led to anything good. In that kind of situation, letting go would have really been the best option.
Thanks for sharing!❤️

Of course charlrific, it's not usually easy to let go in some circumstances, only if the man knew what was ahead of him, he would have chosen the best option which is to let go...

Thank you so much for visiting 👍🤗

The family man turned a bad situation into something worse. Ah!
What was he even thinking? He put his ego first before his sense of reasoning. Now see how much damage he has caused. When has fighting even ever solved a problem?

What if harm had come go his family in the course of do-me-i-do-you fracas?
I can only imagine what went through the minds of the kids. The children may grow up to match problems for problems.

Imagine the other driver had killed him with the object when he went to fight. Would he know how his family would fare? No!
We all really need to learn to control our emotions.
It's really pathetic but, I hope he learns to do better next time. I just hope.

Thank you for putting this out here.
It's a call to order for everyone of us. Thank you!

Wowwww
See how you summarized what transpired over there with detailed points. Honestly, the man didn't consider how his kids will feel before acting and you know children picks so many things especially the bad ones do easily. I hope the incident won't get to their mind much.

It's indeed a lesson to learn by many
Thanks for your Amiable comment 👍🤗🥰

A great real life story to reflect on anger... there are definitely battles that are not worth it and others that are. And this situation you relate is the clear example that it wasn't worth it, that it was better to think before acting and let the reckless driver go. Too bad for the poor man who got carried away by the emotion of the moment! Greetings, @nkemakonam89 🙌!

Yea, this situation required that the man should let go but he didn't. If only we can learn to be more calm in some situations, we could save ourselves of unnecessary stress .

Thanks so much for your nice comment
Much appreciated 👍🤗

What unfortunate situations!💔

It illustrates very well your introduction, of how dangerous it can be to give free rein to basic emotions such as anger. They can even lead to revenge, which is a terrible action. We are sorry that this driver had these injuries and that his beloved children witnessed all this. It also helps us to reflect that o🌹ur decisions have an effect on others and may even be with them for life.

We are so glad to have you with us. Just a suggestion: remember to include in your title the emotion or feeling you wish to highlight. Looking at your post, it may have been anger or rage. Whichever you choose. This way you will comply with the number one rule of the community.😉

Your words are well thought out and well chosen. You keep a logical order in your presentation. And of course you are in the right community for this content. Thank you very much for coming and we hope to see you again. On behalf of the entire community team, we welcome you warmly @nkemakonam89 😘

Awwwww 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I am so much elated at this feedback 🙂🤗
Thank you so much for your amazing comment on my post and your warm welcome 🤗, I feel at home right now 😂🥰

It also helps us to reflect that o🌹ur decisions have an effect on others and may even be with them for life

Exactly 💯, there are some decisions we need to thoroughly reflect on before taking action, especially in the presence of our younger ones. Thanks for pointing out this 👍

And to the correction, it's well noted but I would love to know if I should adjust my title to fit in with rule number one of the community or if I should take note of the subsequent content.

We love to leave our comments for our dear authors whenever we can. You decide whether to edit the title of this post. Many do. We think it's a good idea too. It's just appending it as the first word, perhaps. It would be something like:

ANGER - WHEN TO LET GO...., or.
RAGE - WHEN TO LET GO...., or
XXXXXXXXX - WHEN TO LET GO....

It's your choice. The important thing is that you stay happy @nkemakonam89 😁

There is time for everything, time to let go of things and move on, if only he had listened. Thank God he wasn't killed in the process.

One only knows the beginning of a fight, you don't know where it is leading to. If he had reminded himself that he needs to pay his children's school fees and do not have money for any damages, he could have just let go and let the drunkard go.

People like that are always on another higher world with smoking and alcohol that they don't care whatever damages they incur. Wetin concern them except for few responsible ones among them.

This family man must be an aggressive man from the start and wouldn't stop until he satisfies himself which of course had caused more bigger problems for him.

Truth is, once anger takes over a person, if you aren't careful enough to control it, the end is always regrettable.

I have come to realise that there are times we should fight for our human rights and there are times we should be quiet and just let it go as you said. Most people find it hard to let go, I must admit, it feels painful to let go especially when you are cheated or hurt, but paying back in the same coin is never the answer. I feel sad for the man, the economy is crazy now and that alone is him making angry and refusing to let go.

Yes, I read up to this stage, you are welcome.

Honestly, Lagos is something else. Everybody just dey vex dey para! If you can stay on your own lane, better do, but then it wont be easy, because people will still come and jump in your lane. So most times if you cant control yourself, you will just lose your temper and your cool, and your case will just be like this man's case.

If only he had be calming down, he would not have added the extra charges.. but see anger sha... it is well oooo

It seems like it was dreemport that fired me to this side sha... e don carry me go where I no know
