What Mothers Go Through - My Story

avatar

I woke up this morning so sound and healthy including my children. I didn't expect to find myself in the clinic later today. It's the weekend, I normally use Saturdays to do a lot of foodstuffs shopping and food preparations for the new week. So I set out plans on how my day will look and was following them judiciously until noon, just before I head to the market. Then my second son started acting cold. Before I asked him a question, he coughed and started sneezing. I felt it was just a mild cold and one of his allergy symptoms. Then I used warm water to shower 🚿 him immediately. It didn't stop but rather he started breathing fast.

My son is in the clinic undergoing nebulization

His breathing was so loud that you could hear him from afar. Sincerely I was confused and nervous. He couldn't at least talk to me but rather Opened his mouth in search of breath. I felt so bad for him, suspended all my laid-out plans for today, and rushed him to see the doctor in the hospital. When we arrived, the nurses checked him immediately and called the doctor's attention. They did some tests (full blood count and mp), examined his breathing, and confirmed that there is some congestion in his chest and would need to be nebulized. We bought all the materials needed for the nebulization to create an airway in his chest. The process was carried out 3 times before the doctor confirmed that the chest is now a bit clear.

The doctor also gave us oral medication to continue at home. She said it will help create more airways in his chest for normal breathing. She suspected asthma but advised that I watch out for what he is also allergic to as it will help her in further diagnosis by next week.

At times, issues like this will just surface unannounced, and as mothers, we bear the whole sacrifice for our children. I felt I should bear the pain he felt on his behalf but it was not possible. I could only comfort him. We are at home now and he feels much better, he could breathe well unlike before and I have this peace of mind within.

One thing I have learned as a mother is to stop panicking when issues like this arise. My first son has had a lot of health issues that almost made me develop high blood pressure but today he is very fine. Motherhood indeed comes with all manner of sacrifices and we just have to be strong for our kids. I saw a lot of mothers today in the children's unit at the hospital, taking care of their sick children, some have stayed days and others weeks in the hospital.

I may not have achieved my goal for the day but I am glad to be there for my son, and I am also glad that he feels better now.

I desire that all parents live to eat the fruit of our labor.

Thanks for your time on my blog ❤️

I cannot imagine what you would have had going through your mind. Your mind would have been preoccupied with how to make your son feel better, even if it meant taking his place; and that is the kind of love mothers give.

I just learned about nebulization. I am not sure about much of it, but I guess it doesn't come cheap—and then it came as an emergency. I am glad you were able to provide him with a solution quickly.

Indeed, the sacrifices of a mother are incomparable to any most humans can make. It is boundless and unconditional love.

I really hope it doesn't get more complicated and that he remains fine. It's not a peaceful thing to struggle with breathing.

You are doing well, Nkem. I am glad you remembered to remain calm, as that is the best way to optimally handle situations.

I wanted to switch life with him and bear the whole pain🤦

Nebulizer is the machine used for nebulization, not all that costly. I learnt that some parents do buy it and keep at home Incase of issues like this. Then learn how to do it themselves with the necessary fluids needed. The service is not expensive to like 5k and the machine is almost 50k now

I hope he continues to be fine from home so I can have my peace

Thanks for ur soothing words jay
Much appreciated 👍🤗

Oh, it's really good that it isn't too costly.

I hope he continues to be fine from home so I can have my peace

I hope so too. It isn't a fun thing to struggle with breathing.

All will be well.

I can understand how panicky you would be as a mother seeing your child struggling to breathe. I'm glad you kept yourself together. And sacrificing the things we have to do for the people we love is what makes it all special. I hope he's doing better now. Remain strong ma.✨

It is great that you did not panick but sprung into action and went to the hospital. I am happy to learn that your son is better now. You must be so relieved.
Your son is sensitive an could have an allergy or something else which can only be determined with some testing. It could be incidental but you cannot know until some investigation are done. I hope that it will be possible and you will find out what it is and that he remains healthy.

I know he is allergic to something, hopefully a test could help me find out what it is exactly. He has been fine since we returned from the hospital and I hope he will continue to be healthy.
I really appreciate your nice comment
Thank you so much momo ❤️

Nebulization? My first time hearing of such a word and I think I have gotten a little details from your post.

Mothers are really trying and sacrificing a lot on their kids and just as you have said, they need to be strong and not panicking when things like this arises so they do not get affected with something else.

Sorry about your son and thank God he is relieved and okay. You just have to keep observing him. God will keep taking care of him.
