The unique memories of PE during high school

This prompt took me down memory lane as I reminisced about the beautiful moment I had with PE back in high school. I reflected on the moment I made our team proud and the moment I messed up with the game; both memories added smiles to my face as I write.

The fun time with friends during physical education (PE) in high school is a never-forgotten moment for me. PE is a subject I have always looked forward to, not literally because of the theory aspect but because of the practical aspects of the subject. I usually yearned for it as it took us outside the four walls of the classroom to the field for different outdoor games. Due to how much I cherish participating in the games, I always mark our class time table to be sure that I am not late in school on the days we have the subjects. This is because coming late to my school will make you miss the first subject for the day as you will be made to cut a large portion of grass in the field.

As an extrovert, engaging with my friends during the practical PE sessions was always fun. If you permit me, I will participate in all the different games set out for each day, even when they are done group by group. My PE teacher, Mr. Isaac, made the whole experience worth it. There is no boring moment with him; he is so lively and full of energy. While in the classroom for the subject, he made it look so interesting through demonstrations of each game. You will hardly see any students sleeping, unlike many do when history education classes are going on..lolz. Mr. Isaac's method of teaching PE made me fall in love with the subject, and remembering what to write for the course during the exam is usually easy as the whole memory of him demonstrating the subject had a way of clouding my mind. But I wouldn't deny the fact that I enjoyed the practical aspects the most.

The whole PE experience became more interesting when the inter-house sports day was announced. Our zeal for practicing football, relay races, 100-meter races, etc. doubled. I was almost a jack of all trades. Lolz, I feel shy exposing myself here. You would find me in almost all the games for the event; however, I had one unforgettable experience with one of the games I participated in.

One of my most memorable moments

I was good with the relay race. I love it as it encourages teamwork, but On D-day, the bigger event, I was to receive the baton from the third leg and then run to the finish line, but accidentally, I received it and ran just two steps forward, and the baton fell on the ground. There was a loud scream from the audience. My team, the red house, was already leading, but that fall brought us to the 3rd position. Before I could pick up the baton and continue the race, two other team players were already ahead of me, and almost the third person was even ahead of me. However, I didn't give up; I ran with everything in me and made it to the third position. I was hard on myself; I felt I had disappointed my team, but they instead cheered me up and complimented my courage to continue the race, not minding my setback.

The lesson I learned

Yea, that moment taught me something great about myself, which is not to dwell on my failure but to rise even when I fall to keep pushing ahead. Every delay is not denial; I still reached the finish line despite my fall. If I had given up because I fell, I wouldn't have achieved the trophy at last. The same thing applies to my life generally; no matter the ups and downs, whenever I fall at any point in my life, I will rise and keep striving towards my goal.

Ohhh! Hello there, Nkem. Hehe, unlike you, I was an extrovert, but I just didn’t like participating in so many sports. You’d never see me during inter-house sports day. I’m always hiding. But when it comes to football, ahh! Count me in oo. It is nice that you learned your lessons.

Thanks for sharing.

The fun time of PE was a good time and I think we all have some memory related to it.
Your memorable incident is inspirational. In your case, you learned a great lesson at the end and the important lesson was "never give up" if I am not wrong. Indeed it was a great lesson for life.

And I am so proud of you. Been an extrovert will give you so much edge unlike us that will be too shy to come out and run. And then again you had the best team who aren't mad at you for failing them.

Kudos dearie 💖💖💖❤

I 'm the person who got punishment for not participating in PE. You are lucky to be a jack of all trades. You are also lucky to have Mr-Isaac a good trainer, there are very few persons who doesn't bore their students. I appreciate your efforts for your team. Third position is not bad one, you should be satisfied with your efforts. PE are much needed for a healthy body.

At least you even had the courage to partake in races, my case was entirely opposite. Though I was interested in short and long tennis but my school never really place much priority on it on like other sport. The first time I tried racing it went well but I felt like my kidney was going to fall off 😂😅

And secondly as at then I was an introvert, I was not really good with roaming among crowds, so I try as much as possible to avoid crowded areas. My best position is to be among the first aid kit group and that was because I enjoyed consuming a lot of glucose 😂😅

I do more than just roam, these days I'm more capable of putting a crowd in disarray with my extraordinary sense of humour 😅😂

I have never seen how good a History teacher would be and not make the students fall asleep because the class is always a boring one 😂 Justfavour mentioned how PE theoretical aspect is always boring but here you are saying the class is always fun. I guess it depends on the kind of teacher taking it. There are some who are so good at it.
Your house could have come first or second, what do you think? If not for what happened but instead, they cheered you up and that alone was an encouragement for you which made you continue and took the third position which isn´t a bad one. What a never-forgotten experience during high school. Thanks for sharing with us.

Hehe... Relay race. I did that multiple times and it was really scary. The thought of dropping the baton when it's handed over to you, or being the last runner and wondering if you'll be fast enough to clinch the win. It's a team effort, just as you said. And it's not something that can be won by one person.

I'm glad you had good memories of your PE class. Mine were mostly terrible, maybe I'll write about it later.

You did learn a great lesson though. Getting up after you fall is crucial in life. EVERYONE will fall sometime, having a team to cheer you on and the drive to get up again are important.

Thanks for sharing.

We almost had similar experience in high school though mine was more of marathon race but yours was relay.

I have up when I couldn't continue with the race and none was ready to encourage me to forge ahead. Hmmm with your experience, all hope is not gone. Opportunities are enormous. When another unveil itself, no matter the factors I will thrive to the end.
I've been stirred by your experiences.

Thanks for sharing and look forward to read of your write up.

That cutting of grass reminded me of how I was on the field for the whole day cutting tree when I'm not a lumberjack. Late coming was always a big offence. It pinched me when you said the baton fell, but it gladdens my heart that you never gave up, and your team members took the 3rd position happily without blaming you. In life, we should never give up and I can see that in you Mrs. All your contents showed that you are always ready to push no matter what. Keep it up. A good memory wot remembering.
