Living Unapologetically
A few days ago, we lost a fellow student on campus and it came as a shock to all of us. I heard the news at around 2am while I was up burning the midnight candle for a test. I saw my mates post his pictures on WhatsApp but I didn’t really recognize the person that much but I knew I had seen him once or twice on campus.
The next morning after our test which was yesterday, my course mates were discussing how the whole incident happened which was through an accident. It was a very fatal one as they said and I couldn’t image myself in a situation like that.
As I got back home it hit me that I met this young man right outside my room the day before he died. He was staying with his friend who stayed opposite my room. I was in a shock and I didn’t even realize it. Today we are here, tomorrow we are no more. Such is life.
The question I’ve been asking myself all day is, if I was the one who died that day, what meaning would people make out of the life I lived and would I be at peace? Would I die knowing I lived a good life and went on all the adventures I planned?
A few months ago, I was in a very bad place and decided to make some changes in my life. I realized I wasn’t living the life I wanted and it felt I wasn’t being myself or should I say I wasn’t living this life for myself but for others. If you get what I mean.
From that instant, I changed my way of living totally and I can say if I died today I will die knowing that I was living the life I wanted to live. What’s the best life you would want to live if you were asked?
Personally, I would say the best life I would want to live is one in peace and serenity. Over the years I’ve come to value my peace of mind over everything else and if I find out somebody or something is hindering my peace I quickly do away with it.
A life well lived is one in laughter and love. As is common among the youth of today, we are told to fear the other gender while the other gender is also told same. So now, are we going to live a life where we live by what others say or have experienced?
Someone’s bad luck at love doesn’t mean you will also have the same story. Even if you have your heart broken I bet you still made some good memories and there’s always someone out there to love you for who you are and stay by your side.
Others will say a life well lived us one where you were able to accumulate a lot of money but what’s the use of the money you made when there’s no one to remember all the memories you shared after your death. Remember , that money you worked hard to accumulate will go to others and it will finish one day but the memories you make last forever.
Looking back at my life so far, I can say I’ve lived quite the life. I have loved, been heartbroken, cried, gone on adventures, fallen out with friends, made new friends, corrected my wrongs, travelled, laughed a lot and made the best out of every moment.
If I die today I will know I died living my best life. Even if I haven’t lived the best of lives I know I tried living my best life.

I was doing so well today by avoiding everything that has to do with this death till I read this 🤦🏽♀️
It had me rethinking my whole life and realizing how everything is meaningless.
Also made me realize I’ve been so caught up in my little shell I don’t even get to live. This boy lived in my hostel all this while and I never even knew him. Now he is all that I think about.
It also reminded me that the world will go on with or without you. You should atleast make sure you are pleasing yourself and not others😌
I hope we get to make the most out of the time we have left🫶🏽
That’s very true, this life is nothing and we should make the best out of the little time we have.
