A lizard laying her eggs

We have seen many Lizards in our local nature reserve over the years but never like this. On this particular afternoon we were just strolling up the hill on this fire/maintenance track when just off the side only about one foot away I spot this head poking out from the ground. First up I thought this bearded dragon was dead or badly injured as it just did not move with us so close.

I wondered if we should help or just let nature be. My next thought was how do these lizards reproduce? Maybe she is laying eggs? then without getting any closer we see a big stomach roll and changing our viewing angle slightly we see a pile of eggs behind her.

The place where some water run off had softened the ground just to the edge of the track on the right side of photo must have made for ideal spot for her to dig and bury her eggs.

Her dirty nose had me confused for a while but she must have only just dug the hole using her head to help burrow.

I think this is a Bearded Dragon as it has the spikes under her neck, I often get them confused with water dragon lizards.

It is so handy that these camera phones have good zoom in feature.

The day after we revisited the same place and it looked like our Bearded dragon lizard friend successfully finished laying her eggs and covered them up. @consciouscat is pointing to the place where they are hidden.

It was so awesome to see this lizard laying these eggs. I've never seen that before - it stumped me what she was up to, until you said, "Maybe she's giving birth!" !LOL !LUV !ALIVE

it's amazing to see lizards in nature rather than glass boxes I live in the city so I have very very little time to myself to connect with nature I tend to care for plants

Yes we are lucky to have a decent size nature reserve close to where we live. When we get time it is amazing to see what is alive and thriving in there.
