Pornography, as I see it.

As a young I was attracted to pornography out of sexual curiosity, hormonal and emotional changes did their job and pornography satisfied my curiosity, helping me explore sexuality without having to face real situations or even talk to someone about it.

Many times at home, open and honest conversations about the subject were rare. This left me with many unanswered questions and a lack of knowledge about healthy, consensual sexuality. Pornography can fill that educational void, albeit in a distorted and unrealistic way.

In many movies, television shows, and songs, sexuality is presented in an exaggerated and stereotypical way, with images and depictions that resemble pornography. This can lead young people to believe that pornography is what they should expect and look for in their own sexual experiences.

When I came of age, at 18 years old, and very embarrassed, I bought a ticket at the cinema to see a very controversial and famous movie that because of my young age I could not see before called Caligula, the movie itself was very graphic at a sexual level but it also turned out to be very bad. That day what caught my attention was that in that movie theater full to overflowing most of the spectators were female.

At that moment I questioned the fact that for a long time, the idea has been perpetuated that only men are interested in the sexual aspect of life and that women should only be objects of desire. However, this is simply a social construct that does not reflect reality. Women also have the right to explore their sexuality and enjoy their own pleasure. In a world where women are often judged and criticized for their sexuality, pornography can give them the opportunity to take control of their own sexual image and expression.

Another important aspect to consider is that pornography can be educational. While not all pornographic content is realistic or healthy, there are products that focus on consent, communication, and mutual pleasure. By viewing this type of content, women can learn more about their own bodies, discover new ways to give and receive pleasure, and ultimately improve their sex lives.

Before I got married in the 80's and 90's I had a makeshift video club and my clients were my co-workers, gradually my inventory of movies was growing and one of the main genres that was marketed very well was pornography, which was mainly consumed by women. Strangely, I sometimes asked them why they rented so much of this genre and 99% of the time it was because their partners liked it and that additionally for them it was educational.

Now, in the digital era in which we live, pornography has become a frequent topic of discussion. It has been widely debated whether consuming or participating in pornography is appropriate or not. In my case, at this stage of my life I rarely watch pornography because it tends to create a distorted and unrealistic image of sexual relationships.

Most pornographic content focuses solely on physical pleasure, neglecting fundamental issues such as consent, respect and equality. This can lead to people having unrealistic expectations about sex and can blur the line between fiction and reality.

In addition, pornography almost always encourages sexism and objectification of women. Often, women are portrayed as mere sex objects, with no voice or prominence in the scenes. Such representations reinforce gender stereotypes and perpetuate inequality between men and women in society.

In my opinion, Internet pornography has had a significant impact on society. On the one hand, it has facilitated access to a wide range of pornographic content for those who are interested in it. However, it has also generated greater accidental or unwanted exposure to this type of content, especially among younger people. The ease of access through mobile devices and the lack of adequate restrictions have made pornography more accessible and ubiquitous in everyday life.

This overexposure to pornography has negative consequences on the perception of sex and the formation of intimate relationships. Young people have difficulty distinguishing between reality and fantasy, and may create unrealistic expectations about sex and relationships. Furthermore, the normalization of violence and lack of consent in much pornographic content can have a detrimental impact on the way young people understand and interact with their partners.

This is my participation in the Weekend Topics initiative: WEEK 193, suggested by @galenkp. Link Here.

This is the chosen topic:

Do you watch (or do) pornography or not? Explain why either way. Also, in your opinion, how has Internet pornography changed society and people's behaviors/expectations? Remember to use your own photos.

Greetings to everyone, I wish you a happy weekend, hoping that this post has been liked by the majority and that it has added value to the community.

woah you really went deep into this topic and kudos to you for being one of the few to probably do this topic since I didn't really see anybody talk about it.

I agree with you pretty much on most things. Just for my opinion, as long as it's not doing harm and people have control, I don't think porn is a bad thing. It definitely does as you said make unrealistic expectations sometimes and has negative affects on how guys treat women etc.

I just don't know about those people throwing thousands of dollars on Onlyfans tho im speechless on that. I'd also be against any child porn cuz thats gross and it shouldn't even be allowed but im pretty sure its out there when it shouldn't be.

Child pronography is a great crime and for me that already falls into the realm of mental illness, I will never agree with this aberration that has no forgiveness from anyone.

You really went in-depth with your analysis and I must commend your courage and wisdom in being able to distinguish between the educational impact of porn and it's abusive side.

I also stumbled upon porn at a young age and this distorted my reality of a sexual life. Well I expected every of my sexual encounters back then to be as it was portrayed in those videos but alas, one cannot toy with facts.

I think there should be restrictions to how people view it especially on the internet via the use of mobile phones.

Sexual consent and respect should be clear mutually which is something that porn does not really portray.

This subject of pornography has a lot of things to cut, in most porn the woman is the object, it's one thing. What is generally seen in porn is unreal and many times to put it into practice is impossible. In the current times pornography is easily accessible to all and if consumed, this should be with judgment and discernment between the good and bad of what we are seeing on a screen.

Internet is a very good tool that unfortunately is often misused. It is very easy for anyone to access pornography, it is not done with criteria and what is sought is to objectify women, to see them as if they were objects and not humans.
