Goodbye Untamed - Preparing for the Rebellion!

Hello Splinterfans!

As the new Rebellion pack gets released, we will see for the first time the rotation of Untamed and Dice cards out of modern into the wild league. This set has some very powerful cards and could make a big impact on your tactics and how you play the game.

Earth Splinter

Looking at the Earth Splinter first, some of the heavy-weight legendaries are going to rotate out including Scarred Llama Mage, Kron The Undying and Oaken Behemoth.

With the Llama and Kron combo gone, some tactics will need a big rethink and could rebalance some of the strength in the earth deck. Kron is also a centerpiece for many magic attack formations.

Outside of the legendaries, I think the next biggest impact on the earth splinter will come from the loss of Unicorn Mustang as a very powerful tank to repel those magic attacks in the lower leagues. Also the loss of a low mana cost Khmer Princess will be a big blow. Will we be able to use earth for magic attacks anymore?

The next biggest impact I think will be the loss of the thorns summoner Mylor Crowling. A favorite of many in the lower leagues and also great for new players. There will be less worrying about thorns from now on in the modern league with the loss of Mylor.

Water Splinter

The impact on the water splinter is much less profound I think, although there is the loss of a few good monsters. Top of my list would be the loss of Axemaster that I have recently upgraded. Now is a good time to grab some of these untamed cards if you are missing them as people could be selling their assets for the new rebellion cards.

The Axemaster with his double strike ranged attack, is a real game changer for many line ups. Next the water deck loses a quite powerful Coral Wraith who is an old favorite for many.

Finally, I think the loss of Serpent of Eld will be a blow for some of those lower league matches where he is a great tank.

Fire

In the fire splinter there is also a pretty big impact to the game, almost as big as with the earth splinter with the loss of Yodin Zaku who is just a nightmare to try and beat and he will now rotate out and this could leave a big gap in the fire splinter.

I don't use him myself, but I think the legendary Magnor who is the only fire monster with the taunt ability will rotate out of modern. It could mean that some strategies will no longer work in the modern league.

Finally, I think the loss of Living Lava and Fineas Rage are a bit of a blow to the fire splinter. I have just bought recently my upgraded Living Lava and it will be a shame to lose him in modern now. He makes a great tank and also for reverse speed ruleset. Although, I think the blow is less since there are now a couple of very powerful legendaries to replace him. He would not be first choice for a tank these days.

It is a similar story for Fineas Rage, although very fast, there are other options in modern with reach ability, but he would still be one of the first choices, so it could affect things.

Finally, a few low mana monsters are rotating out and one useful one is Serpentine Spy who has the opportunity ability. These low mana monsters are really important for the fire splinter, especially with opportunity ability.

Death

Similar to the water splinter, I think the death splinter comes out pretty ok from the changes with just the loss of a few key monsters, but there are plenty of replacements to choose from.

The main loss I think will be the summoner Owster Rotwell and his reflection shield ability. This can cause havoc on those not expecting it and it will disappear from modern.

Next I think the low mana cost Undead Badger who is pretty good with his sneak ability will be missed by some.

Finally, Dark Ha'on has been know to cause some havoc with his high health and taunt ability. He will be missed from many lineups I am sure.

Life

The impact on the life deck is quite dramatic I think and will cause a few problems for those affected. Life can struggle against some powerful decks as it is.

They lose 3 summoners overall that are pretty good and provide some great abilities. I have seen many decks built around Lorna Shine and they will disappear from modern.

The rotation for the life deck is quite big imo. The loss of the fun Kralus with his immunity ability is a bit of a blow. Also the magic attack of life is hit hard with the loss of Temple Priest with his low cost and the stun magic of Bila The Radiant. You could argue there has been some extra magic attack reinforcements added I suppose.

The Shieldbearer is also a big blow for life with losing its only melee monster with taunt ability. There is still taunt available in life with the soulbound cards, but it is quite expensive compared to Shieldbearer. He is still maintaining a strong price too, I would love to get myself a maxed out Shieldbearer.

The final big loss I think is the timid looking Herbalist. With the cleanse and triage ability, she packs a big punch and will be missed I think. Especially at only 2 mana cost! I saw there were some great bargains for her so just bought myself a maxed out Herbalist now at a great price!

Dragons

Another heavily impacted splinter is the Dragons. Especially the summoners that are quite popular as the open up more monster choice. The meme summoner Brighton Bloom being my favorite to be leaving modern. Like most of the untamed cards, he has nearly halved in price and is quite within reach for those collectors who want to add him. He is certainly on my watchlist.

Of course among the legendaries, the big news is the rotation of Byzantine Kitty who is pretty potent and a favorite of many. After an initial steep price drop, she seems to have recovered in price quite strongly.

Next I would see Dragon Jumper as possibly a sorely missed monster with his decent stats for mana cost. He has caused me a few problems in the past.

Neutral

A look at the neuteral monsters leaving modern that are going to mix things up abit, I think these 4 will have the biggest impact. Almo Cambio is a popular tank and of course War Chang for those ranged only rulesets is super for the tank position in those games.

Sand Worm is a very popular strong sneak attack monster that will be sorely missed. I know he was one of the ones I first leveled up he was so useful in all leagues.

I think also Cornealus has been a popular monster that I have seen used alot against me and will be missed my many.

Summary

The rotation is going to be a huge event. We will see some of the most powerful summoners in the game Yodin, Llama and Kitty leave modern which will mean a complete change of strategy for some players. Not only that, a few of my favorite meme summoners also drop out.

I am really looking forward to seeing which new strategies are going to work in modern and what new combinations are going to become the most powerful now. We also do not know the new rebellion cards yet that come in to replace them and what impact they may have.

How will they compare to the soulbound cards that we already have leveled up and to the untamed cards that we have lost?! It is going to be fun to find out!

What card will you most miss from untamed? I will quite miss my recently acquired Axemaster and also it will be strange without Kron and Khmer Princess.

Thank you for giving the tip about the cards that will change format, I actually used some of them in modern mode, I will have to find other cards that are as strong as these 🤔🤔

It's really going to mix things up abit. Some popular combinations will disappear and I wonder how things will look once they go.

Nice strategy.

Do you think these changes will make it more challenging for new players to get into the game?

I have no cards at the moment and thinking of joining

Thanks.

No,quite the opposite actually. You can get a very strong chaos Legion deck very cheap now plus build up some strong soulbound cards too just from playing. Let me know if you need any help with anything. To start with you can also rent for almost nothing to see if you like it.

I love the rotation mechanism that is helpful for new players.
What I consider unfair, however, is that real players who do not want to play against bots are penalized in the rotation.
For example if I want to use my Byzantine Kitty I have to play in the Wild where there are bots....
bot-farms can instead use cards from all collections.
I hope that bots will be eliminated in the short term even from the Wild otherwise the long term goal stated by Splinterlands will be just a word and not a fact..

Nice post my friend!

Thanks, I know how you feel. I tried to play some games in wild and it is not easy to win.

I agree bots should be banned. I don't know how they can enforce it though.

Long term you are right, they need to remove.them.
