Going back to farming is one of my ways to manage inflation

I was complaining to one of my taekwondo teachers a few weeks ago about how hard things are. I mean, the rate of inflation in our country is extremely high, and there is no money in circulation. This inflation has really hit a whole lot of us in so many dimensions.
I couldn't bear it anymore. I mean, it is not as if I'm not seeing money, but everything is going back to food, and believe me, I do not have a single savings account. Not just a single one.

Well, it's not just food alone that I need; at this moment, I need food every day. We eat every day, and no matter how you want to do it, you will still eat in a single day. And if you are someone like me who loves to eat a lot, you will realize that eating outside is extremely dangerous for you and your health. I mean, how much did I even want to spend outside? I will never be satisfied, and I will also spend more than I can imagine.

You know, I once tried doing that. I once tried eating outside. That was when I realized that it wasn't definitely meant for me. No matter the amount of food I consume, I will never be satisfied without cooking myself. Well, that is what we are all used to. That's how they brought us all up, so I'm finding it so difficult to balance.

Fortunately for me, I have a brother I used to train with, and he's a farmer. We have known each other now for more than four years. This man has been a farmer since 2009 or even before then. Which means he has gotten a lot of things from there.
In our conversations, I told him about how the situations are for me and how I find it difficult to eat outside. Honestly, he's reply really shocked me. He said he doesn't even know the prices at which they sell food outside. Simply because he has almost everything on his farm: yam, potatoes, chickens, eggs, and some other vegetables. Even garri, which we all know as cassava cornflakes. He told me he might not have money, but then why do we all need money? As an average Nigerian, what we actually need money for is food. I was overwhelmed by what he said because, come to think of it, I spent 90 percent of my money on food. I'm not a fan of clothes, shoes, or new things. Just food and data, and little subscriptions for my apps—apart from that, I don't have anything else I spend money on.

After thinking about it for some time, I told my brother about how I also wanted to start farming; in fact, I wanted to start with chickens called layers. After I calculated it and did some estimations, I realized that reading birds, which is chicken, will not only benefit me but also save me a lot. I told him I would start with lawyers's and not broiler chicken.

The main reason for this is that lawyers will do me two good things: I will be able to see free eggs every day. And since I'm the only one who will be eating it, one chicken will give you at least six eggs in a week. Imagine rearing 20 chickens that will give you 60 eggs in a week and 240 eggs in a month. That alone is something good for me. And apart from that, I can also eat the chicken if I don't want to rear it again. So, in a nutshell, it will serve as meat and food at the same time.
Meanwhile, I also want to start crop farming—just the one I want to eat anyway. I wanted to plant yams, potatoes, and some other things.

I just want to do this so I can have time to save money and also be able to eat good food. I do not even trust what we buy; I believe the best thing to do is to start farming, even if it's just a little one you will eat at home. I have already started planning anyway, and I wish to finish it well.

     Thanks for stopping by.

This is really a very good idea! even my mom does the same. This way you even get the fresh stuff that you do not get in any shop. I totally loved how you portrayed it!

Exactly my point, eating fresh food is indeed the best we can do.

At this juncture, I think we all need to venture into farming. Someone might say they don’t have the skills but there’s always room to learn.

When I go to the market I come back so frustrated because everything is expensive. It is well.
