Some very rapid damage Insects and Pest are causing on Fast growing maize plant.

Hello Hive.

This is one of the major challenges we have with growing crops in the farm. It is either there is an insect attack or animals (cattle and goats) invade the farms.
Keeping away animals is much easier but when you have insects like this we have to seek for alternative means to keep them away.

If these were to be my fluted pumpkins, traditionally we are taught to prepare ash from burnt wood to spread on the leaves, maybe a dusty surface will make it unfriendly for pest but here I have very large corn farms and the treatment to rescue this maize is yet unknown to me.

Grasshoppers can be picked manually by hand but when you have a huge invasion, it becomes impossible to pick all of these insects from the farm.

I might need to consult the Agricultural chemical store to know if there is a remedy to this.
Imagine if all the maize leave gets eating, the resulting effect might be that there will be a poor harvest or no harvest at all.
Just in case anyone has an idea of what I can do to help this corn.

Coming to the farm to see this damage today is really disappointing.

The sun is on the high side and is beating heavily on my face and it is barely midday and so couldn't stay to do much work.

After weeding out the first round of grasses from the maize farm you cab see some new sets that are growing right below the maize plants.

This means that the farm is calling for a second weeding.
We often carry out two rounds of weeding in the farm before harvest.

After the second weeding, we then plant guinea corn since we are managing the leased land spot for farming.
Mixed cropping is what we practice here.

This is one section of our early maize plant.
We often plant our maize in different field and sometimes twice within a season so we harvest the early and late maize.
We have maize growing in two to three different portions to be harvested at different times as well.
