Market Friday has offered us with great opportunities to go round the world shopping and exposing our cultures. It has been a delight to see different kinds of market from across the globe.
The different colorful products ranging from food, clothes, flowery markets and the rest of them.

Today am sharing a market Friday experience not from the point of a buyer but a seller since I got a position Here to manage this store for a while.

The reason for the post has been because of a recent discussion between myself and some hivers friends about the countries financial challenges and how the citizens are able to manage the minimum wage of $64 or 30k thousand naira do a living.
Well no body can actually be able to survive with the 30k looking at the current prices of goods as I will be posting them that has been the reason so many around here run multiple jobs just to meet up with their financial needs

Personally am engaged in farming to get some of the raw foods I need.

Recently I started managing this store to get an additional source of income from the store owner

Am a seamstress looking forward to starting my own fashion line.

And the earnings from hive blog has been of been of help in so many aspect as well.

Basically I engage in 4 different activities for now and peradventure more channels of income open up to me, I might still be willing to learn more skill and engage in other activities as well..
Financial duties are still much heavy on me, just like every other family persons in the country. Am working hard trying to raise my siblings and keep the house intact, no room for slacking hands.

Starting with diary products we sell
A tin of milk and bournvita from a price of 2500/$5.4 and upward

IMG_20230428_150304_650.jpg

IMG_20230428_150101_148.jpg

Basically when you visit the market, you can only pick a few things with the 30k.
Probably a tin of milk 2500
And milo 252500
Bag of Semo 7500
Pack of noodles 4300
Paint of rice. 2500
Keg of oil 7000

Sparing the rest monies for spices and other needed finances talking about transport and others.
Remembering that we didn't add rice, beans, tubers or other categories of food consumed around here.
Knowing fully well that all this wouldn't last a family of 4 beyond 3weeks.

More reason people work multiple jobs and have survived so well in a poor country with poor economy.
Buying all your needs and no room for fun shoppings, unnecessary travels or fun trips and many more.

That's about what I made in the past and even my parents were making that much too at some point. I think it's because things were cheaper in the past that it was much easier to survive with that much. When I earned that much, half of it goes to my rent and the rest for food. I was still able to travel and do fun things once a month, by saving up 1$/week but of course, I could only go to nearby place that are cheaper. It's definitely difficult if that much is for 4 people instead 1-2 persons.

I love how indomie has that slogan over there. We generally use that as savior when we're hungry :D and add that with rice, that's carby meal but that's how we can survive :D

Wow... Amazing
Am glad you could relate to this.
Things were much cheaper about 2years back.. They skyrocketed up to 4x their initial price because of our exchange rate and that's why that amount of money seem not sufficient.

Its not amount have plenty of money but getting value for the little one has and its also a good things that you saved to have fun once in awhile.

Thanks for stopping by 🙏🌼🌺🍷🍸

Many #MarketFriday people that use food as their market have been showing an increase in their weekly prices. While it is noted that Indonesia wins for keeping the prices the lowest, it is all relative, isn't it? If you make little, thank goodness you don't have to spend much to live. However, I am seeing that we need to spend more than what we have to keep the same standard of living. I am watching prices double and triple.

If I look at the data presented, it looks like poverty has gone down, but just like everything else, numbers will tell you whatever you want them to. Numbers lie and liars use numbers. The fact is, we are struggling. All of us, but, at different levels. There is less poverty on paper, but, the population is still growing, so truly, there are more numbers.

You are at a definite disadvantage because of your circumstances in helping to raise your siblings. You take this responsibility seriously and never complain. You are a beautiful human being.

As far as the prices go, it is insane, isn't it? I look at your cereal, one of the options many Americans take for a quick, easy breakfast to get the kids out on time and still feed them. Cereal used to be an inexpensive option that is no longer. Everything has gone up so much! Basic needs are in dire straights.

Working at the store keeps you in line of sight with the inner workings of the economy. Their price is going up, so they need to charge more for a profit. Is there an item in your shopping basket that is a need to buy item? Mine is something high in protein and I build around it.

Thank you again, for an always interesting and honest look at what your economy looks like, from the eyes of the people.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

Thank you for the kind words.

We need a good amount of protein to balance up all the cereals we consume.
Looking at all these items I do prefer vegetable proteins and some grains, mostly beans and soya beans

But luck is on my side since I grow and harvest these in our farms and I don't have to buy them.

Thank you so much

That is so very forward-thinking of you and makes perfect sense to grow and harvest if possible. Beans and soy are a nutritious and delicious way to balance it.

Tres excellente!
