A weed clearing day at the Farm.
Hello Homestead
Today is one of the most stressful day at the farm when we have to clear weeds(grasses) away from growing corn.
By now our set of planted corns are a 6weeks old but because the land is fertile you can see that some of it are almost my height
We have planted corn with a maturity cycle of 3month which is 12 weeks.
Occasionally this is more economical since we get to plant and harvest on time so that the space can be used for other farming purpose.
In the land where corn is planted, we also plant guinea corn along side as a form of mixed cropping to maximize land space.
Planting of corn commenced earlier in other states and we have had influx of fresh corn here already.
Usually the first harvested corn are eating roasted or cooked, I might check in the street later to have a bite myself.
But for today we have hoes and several rolls of weeds to clear from the corn.
My dad is yet to decide if we are going to add fertilizers to the farm since the land looks fertile enough.
But sometimes we actually do need that enhancement to make the seeds large enough .
For any year we decide to use animal dung as organic fertilizer i usually prefer dumping/spreading the dungs in the farms even before planting so the organic matter can dissolve into the soil first before we even plant the maize.
That way it is easier for the crops to absorb nutrient from the soil.
Growing organic food with poultry droppings and animal dung is good for our health and inorganic fertilizers are no longer healthy and advisable.
Thanks for stopping by.
We're coming during harvest please
Good piece
You welcome.
May our barns be full by then.
Amen and Amen o
