Privacy at Stake: Benefit or Threat? [EN/P]

Our data is extracted on a daily basis, and the applications we use are the main culprits. It's no wonder that when we want something and say it, some time passes and some advertisements appear about it. In other words, we don't just have information leaked from what we search for or browse on the internet, they also listen to our conversations. So, is this leak a good thing? Are there any advantages to this? How far can people's privacy be invaded? These are questions we need to ask ourselves.

Staying anonymous on the internet is not an easy task if you want more privacy, but there are positive points. In a way, if the government or a company holds information, it's easier to detect any infringements of the law. People, knowing that they are being monitored in some way, tend to act more correctly, that's my opinion. Another positive point is that if our data is leaked, when someone commits a crime, it can be easier to investigate the crime. Maybe the information that is taken from us can help in some way to bring understanding to the needs of a certain area, but I'm not sure about that. The big question is: what do they do with this data?

If it's to bring benefits to society, I wouldn't see a problem. But if there's one thing the government likes to do, it's control, and it's going to use all the tools available to it to do that. If that's the main factor in taking our data, it's very bad news. People should have the right to privacy, there's nothing worse than having it taken away from us, it should be a minimum right for every citizen. The government wants to control its citizens by taking their data, taking away their privacy, but on the other hand, we rarely see any transparency in the way they spend our money, make decisions, and I don't even need to mention the various corruption scandals that happen frequently.

I believe there should be some way for people to decide how far this invasion should go. We can't just open the windows of our lives without some real need, and the worst thing is that many people don't even know it's happening. I can't say I always knew this until I heard a phrase that made me realize: "If you don't pay for the product, you are the product". Social networking apps are masters at taking our data and selling it on to other companies, and the story starts off wrong from there; if governments, which are supposed to guarantee our privacy against these companies, are playing along with us, things aren't going to be easy.

It is for this reason and many others that I put a lot of faith in the evolution of blockchain technology, which, despite being transparent, guarantees anonymity in different forms. Using Hive, for example, I feel safe in the knowledge that there is no company passing on my data to third parties. So I believe that cryptographic measures are a good alternative to solve this problem of privacy and data leakage. There are also other ways of circumventing this leakage by using VPNs or even virtual machines, but I don't see the need to resort to these resources.

More and more people are using technology and over time society will understand the need to keep their data safe, and over time the spread of this information will become more pronounced and new privacy features will be created and adopted by people. The future will be built on the internet; we can't take any risks, even if it's against our own government.

Honestly.... People do not know what heir information is being leaked which can made them prone to many direct and indirect cyber attacks.

When I knew about the data storage, I find it difficult to buy things from online stores

Yeah, man, this is a topic that only those with a slightly deeper knowledge will be able to talk about. Even we, who are more active, still have doubts, so I wonder how older people deal with this, and it's natural that they fall for scams or suffer from these data leaks.

We do have limited knowledge of the internet and how data is being stored. I guess we just have to discuss based on the limited knowledge we have. I pity the older generation who have very little knowledge about the Internet but still use it for their day to day activities.

When I didn't know about the trick on why my 'searched' items pop out on my social media space, I used to think it's magic.
Maybe they're reading our thoughts lol 🤣

The shocking thing is how Google knows what you are interested in and those feeds or ads continues to pop up on your pages
That’s when we’re supposed to know that there is something wrong somewhere

Data's are not as private as people think it is and you gave a clear example of the internet search engine. At first I was like the internet knows what I want but someone explained better to me.

I think nowadays, more tools are available that to a certain degree help us in controlling how our data is utilized by these social media and other third party apps. Awareness of these things will definitely help for users to have the choice of making well informed decisions with their data.

This is taken from us without even knowing! That's the issue, we should have at least some control over which information is taken from our actions.

Right! Many are still oblivious to how the process works and most don't have any control over it.
