Christmas Noises: When the Celebration Becomes Disturbing

Christmas is perhaps one of the most traditional celebrations I know, and it's easy to imagine how this celebration moves people, leading them to reflect on the true essence of this moment. Lately, however, I've noticed a change in the air surrounding this date, and I say this by observing people and the daily life leading up to this event.

I've already mentioned in other posts how I remember Christmas as a family and all the magic of seeing all the relatives together through my childhood eyes. I'm not sure if it's me who has changed or if it's the people and their attitudes that amaze me. This celebration is all about consumerism. It's all very well wanting to please those closest to you with presents; I like it. However, every time I've left the house to buy something to give as a present, I've noticed that people are very stressed, and I mean that in general, everywhere I've looked people have been a bit out of sorts. In traffic, when shopping and even some of the salespeople, everyone was agitated and intolerant beyond belief. It didn't feel good.

In addition to this urban euphoria when shopping, something I had never seen before was an event in which several motorcyclists get together to ride through the streets making a lot of noise. It's hard to believe that something like this could happen, but they organize themselves just to annoy people with their motorcycles with their exhausts modified to make a lot of noise. It's deafening when they pass through the streets; you can't talk, listen to music or just have the usual quiet. I understand that this is a time for celebrations, but something like this goes beyond the bounds of sense, especially when it comes to taking away people's peace and quiet. That's not Christmas.

Yesterday, I received news that a tragedy had occurred in the town where I lived because of this event promoted by bikers. According to the news, many young people were gathered on their motorcycles, making a hell of a racket in front of the houses with these extremely noisy bikes, and one of them was killed. Reports say that a retired fireman had a fit of rage because the noises were causing his mother to have seizures. He grabbed a gun and fired at the bikers, hitting a 19-year-old. So I ask myself: who was really in the wrong? Killing someone isn't justifiable, but if these young people had been in their homes celebrating with their families instead of out doing the wrong thing, this tragedy wouldn't have happened. Is this really the spirit of Christmas?

And from what I've observed, this event, where many bikers get together to make noise, is not something exclusive to our region. I've seen many reports of people witnessing this happening in other states. Is this the kind of tradition that the new generation wants to implement? How many more tragedies must occur before awareness visits these young people? It's sad to see things like this happening, as well as many other news stories and tragedies that occur on this date that should be one of pure joy, celebrating the birth of Jesus or, for those who aren't Christians, just being together with their families.

I really don't know if it's my experienced eyes that are seeing all that is good fall apart. I hope Christmas goes back to being what it should be. The main essence is not alcohol and parties, but spending quality time with the people we love. Life is short, life passes, and the magic ends, but it's still Christmas, and I hope that things at least don't get any worse.

Não tenho certeza se fui eu que mudei ou se foram as pessoas e suas atitudes que me deixam espantado. Esta comemoração está totalmente voltada para o consumismo. Está tudo bem querer agradar as pessoas mais próximas com presentes; eu gosto disso. No entanto, em todas as vezes que saí de casa para comprar algo para presentear, notei que as pessoas estão muito estressadas, e digo isso em âmbito geral, em todos os lugares que observei um pouco, as pessoas estavam um pouco fora de si. No trânsito, nas compras e até mesmo alguns vendedores, todos estavam agitados e intolerantes acima do normal. A sensação que tive não foi boa.

Além dessa euforia urbana nas compras, algo que nunca tinha visto até então foi um evento em que vários motociclistas se juntam para transitar pelas ruas fazendo muito barulho. É difícil acreditar que algo assim possa acontecer, mas eles se organizam apenas para incomodar as pessoas com suas motos com o escapamento modificado para fazer muito barulho. É ensurdecedor quando eles passam pelas ruas; você não consegue conversar, escutar uma música ou ter apenas o sossego habitual. Entendo que este é um momento de festas, mas algo assim ultrapassa o limite do senso, principalmente quando se trata de tirar o sossego das pessoas. Isso não é Natal.

É triste ver coisas como essas acontecendo, assim como muitas outras notícias e tragédias que ocorrem nessa data que deveria ser de pura alegria, celebrando o nascimento de Jesus ou, para aqueles que não são cristãos, apenas estando juntos de suas famílias.

Realmente não sei se são meus olhos experientes que estão vendo tudo o que é bom cair por terra. Espero que o Natal volte a ser o que deveria ser. A essência principal não são bebidas alcoólicas e festas, mas sim passar um tempo de qualidade com as pessoas que amamos. A vida é curta, a vida passa, e a magia acaba, mas ainda é Natal, e espero que as coisas pelo menos não piorem.
