Becoming a Rising Star - My Journey, Opinions and More

Hello! Every once in a while on this blog, you can find a post that highlights a game I like, a game I think could be interesting to start playing or in general something about blockchain games. I have already covered Hashkings, Astral Entities, Skyweaver and WOO. It is an awful oversight that for some reason, I never really wrote a post about Rising Star - a game which actually gives me the highest returns and is addicting in a way I cannot really explain.

If you are on HIVE, chances are you have heard about Rising Star - there are also chances you were a bit offset by it being a simple clicker - but honestly the game is much more than that and I will try to show that to you in the upcoming post. I'll talk about what my journey in the game has been so far, some plans for the future, my opinion about the game and its community as well as some loose things like what cards I'd like to see or what kind of improvements would be awesome.

What is Rising Star?

Simply put, it is a clicker game in which you start off as a lowly busker and slowly make your way up towards the so-called "mega stardom". As your account levels up, you get access to more and more different missions (which vary by length, energy cost, as well as the STARBITS payout). Actions within the game cost energy, which recovers overtime.

Your account has multiple stats - Fans, Luck, Skill and Income Modifier, which all affect your career in different ways. Fans increase the STARBITS payout, as well as ego - which in turn decreases that payout. Skill is used to balance this and remove ego, while Luck increases the chance of random occurences - getting more temporary fans.

The game's NFTs are cards which represent musicians, instruments and vehicles that all increase your stats, while also being useful later on for creating your own band. These are the heart of the game, as they are limited in quantity and go out of print quite fast - so get them before it's too late and prices shoot up!

My Journey

Having played Rising Star for around 4 months, although not always very zealously until more recently, I've got a bit of experience - but I am also quite far away from the best, who have been doing this for over a year! Currently, I am nearing level 60, which means that all there is left to do for me in the second zone of the game - Local Gig Circuit - is to reach level 75 and unlock all the band slots.

Just a month ago, when I hit level 50, I instantly bought 1 million STARBITS in order to be able to do the Millionaire mission. This gives you a guaranteed 100 days ROI, which is quite insane, considering that the value of STARBITS has been fairly stable recently. This gave my account a huge push and as of the last week of March, I am sitting at just under 8000 Fans, 11500 Skill, 500 Luck and 170 IM. I have also been able to steadily climb the leaderboard, hovering around top 1000-1100 in the past few days.

My average STARBITS daily income is around 16000, with 10000 coming from the Millionaire mission. I reinvest everything into cards, with the exception of allowing myself up to 1 pack per week if I am feeling lucky. This way I have acquired already 118 cards, which is an alright number - and I am usually able to add 2-3 cards a day, totalling anywhere between 250 and 350 fans.

I definitely made some mistakes due to simply being a little too fun-oriented, but I do not mind that - in the end, it is a game and it should be fun! These include doing a lot of event missions during Valentine's event - I did 22 of these, which probably lost me a fair bit of potential STARBITS, while also being unlucky enough to never get a single instrument. I also did 75 fanclub missions, but these were not as bad - I made sure to stop after I got Rosie, which netted me a fair bit of fans overall!

Goals

Rising Star is a lot of fun for me, but where money is involved, it has to also be treated as an investment. I am already quite happy with where it is going, as I bought my million STARBITS for something between 230 and 240 bucks, while it is currently worth just over 300! That is a 25%-ish increase on an investment that provides a 100 day ROI anyway! That said, I have a few goals to reach - and my deadline is the end of June!

  • 30000 STARBITS/day. This is, I believe, quite a reasonable goal, especially that I do plan on investing a little extra HIVE into the game soon. Reinvesting the STARBITS I earn already, I see a great exponential growth of my earnings and I would like to keep that up going forward.
  • Top 200 leaderboard. Much more of a stretch to have this particular goal, as I am aware that I am not the only one that is growing their account - but you gotta aim high! I will spend some of my STARBITS on getting more unique cards soon, in order to let that metric carry me up the leaderboard a little.
  • Unlock more missions. I honestly do not know what the later missions are - but I want to make sure I unlock as many as possible! While it's a clicker, the fantasy of progression is just a lot of fun to me!

Let's see at the end of June where I get with these goals. I will be happy with just reaching the 30000 STARBITS - but will work towards the leaderboard too!

My Opinion and Rambling

I think my favourite thing about the game is its community. The way that Rising Star enables indie artists by giving them a platform to be heard is amazing, as is the fact that they can upload their tracks and have them bought by other players. Even though the game is a clicker, the community of musicians and music lovers that it has built is something that will never let it get boring!

The fact that many of the rare cards are made after streamers, while the legendaries are in the likeness of artists who have collaborated with Rising Star and used it as a platform is something that brings the community even closer. In general, cards are something I absolutely love - the cheeky lines describing each card, the colour schemes as well as the card art itself! I often giggle reading these lines, the hilarious British dry humour! I am always so excited for New Cards' Days, because I just know they'll be awesome. Personally, I would love to see more cards resembling some of my favourite real artists (of course not in copyright infringing ways!), such as Tobias Sammet, Lizzo, Maluma and Jorn Lande (yes, my music tastes are.. awfully non-specific).

The game itself, despite being a clicker, does give a sense of progression, as you are always working towards some clear goal - levelling up gives you more and more ways to play the game. At first you are just doing regular missions, but then you can start doing the events, there are the Fanclub cards, Festival missions, the ability to create your own instruments, creating a band - this is all something I look forward to and what makes me want to keep playing.

Closing Words

Rising Star is amazing. It gives you a sense of progression, a sense of belonging to a community and its creators are also very approachable and friendly - this is a recipe for success and I am happy to be a part of this game!
