Worker's Day - Working On A Labor-Free Day

"I was totally unaware that I am now a worker, a government worker for that matter".
Being a worker means I have the worker's Day to observe, a day the Government have set aside for my likes (workers) which happens to be today (May 1st) but somehow, I found myself going to work today and coming back home tired as usual.

What happened? Why didn't I observe this precious day?

The simple answer is that, I forgot I am a worker and so I didn't anticipated today as a free day for me. The story is more than that though, let's get into it.

This is my second week since I started to do the work I was assigned to do for my service year and so there's so much to do but nothing really, I feel it is something I can handle. I had never thought I'd be able to teach in a school but I've always prepared my mind for the possibility should I sign up for my country service and as expected, here I am.

The work is going fine, fine enough but I think I got engrossed in it too quickly to not have remembered today is a public holiday and schools aren't supposed to be active. It would even be an easy one to observe here in a community where they don't seem to value education as much I've come to know before.

Well, it is more shocking that I got reminded of this public holiday yesterday night and when I tried to get in contact with my employer about it, it just felt wrong as it wasn't announced in school so the kids won't attend school too.

Imagine teachers not in school but the students came waiting for them...

Instead of worrying about my free day that won't be free, I was worried about that possibility until I got a confirmation from my employer that I have to be in school to work as usual on a day I'm supposed to act like the most laziest.

It was both heartbreaking and relieving, I would appreciate any rest I get but I'd also not want to hear students went to school but didn't find any teachers. The communication system over here isn't so good to notify parents so they have their wards at home in order to observe this day, we had to go to work.

As expected, work today was stressful once again but the sweet part was that we were allowed to get off work early. I was all stressed taking various classes and making sure the students were in good behaviour until the closing bell rang, I wished I didn't have to go through all that on a day like this but it happened already.

So to relieve my stress and celebrate this day anyways, I made sure to treat myself to a nice meal when I got back, avoided any other form of work and just laid on my bed seeing kdrama series. It isn't the best way to enjoy this labor free day but I felt really at peace and appreciated the fact that I got off work early.

Hopefully, such a thing won't repeat itself... Working on a labor free day, it's not like I'm the hardworking kind so why did this happen to me today really?! Well, it's all in the past now, I feel energized and ready for the working days ahead.

Happy workers day to all Workers!!!

This is my entry to the Inleo prompt challenge with the focus on "Love, care, positive relationships, labor day" and you're invited to participate too.

Ohhh I can’t imagine the stress in having to handle many students today.
But once again how did you forget you had to rest today? I know why 🥹

You laying on your bed to enjoy kdrama after work brought back some service memories 🥹

Lol what could be the reason I forgot? I think it's just because I haven't considered myself a worker before 😅

Yeah, I was coming to say it’s because it’s your first time. I used to wake up to prepare for work on Saturdays when I started my service
I would call my colleague who used to pass by my place and ask why he’s running late and he would tell me it’s Saturday 😂😂

So I understand 😂

Aw my comrade is so serious with the work she forgot to take a deserved rest and watch some kdrama today.

At least on the bright side, the students came to school and you enjoyed the not so free day. Or my comrade didn't enjoy it😂

Lol I don't think I enjoyed it but they were attentive to my class so maybe I did 😂

At the end students paid the price 😅. They missed a holiday from their life for teacher's mistake. They won't forgive you.
Whatever mistakes happens sometimes but I hope that kind of mistake won't be repeated.

It wasn't a mistake, the school just doesn't observe this holiday. I didn't ask to know that's why I said I forgot I'm a worker now 😅

The stress in trying to manage a whole lot of students every day can really be choky. I have actually been in that shoe before
