HILARIOUS HORRORS •//• A Kid’s Tale.

(Edited)

There are a lot of things that traumatized most of us as a kid, and to be honest, some of them still disturb me now. These things are not superstitions, they are just natural fears mostly derived when we find ourselves in some situation.

I don’t know if most people can relate to this but I am sure most people from my county would

COMING OUT TO GREET A UNFAMILIAR MEMBER OF THE FAMILY OR FAMILY FRIENDS.

Most of us are quite familiar with the moment when one of our parent’s friends or family members that we are not used to coming to visit us and most of us would stay in our room until our parents decided to call us.

We will be staying out of their zone, enjoying our own serenity and comfort, until our parents decide to call us out to greet them. It is always disturbing and uncomfortable to come out and greet them.

The most offending part is when the guests get so surprised that we are now grown, they start teasing us and asking silly questions and we just have to stand there looking so awkward and we just keep smiling awkwardly. Like aren’t we supposed to grow? Hehe.

I remember how I used to pretend that I was sleeping anytime I knew someone I might need to greet was around. This thing usually traumatized me as a kid, sometimes I would beg my mom and cry that I don’t want to go and greet an aunt that I know nothing about.

SOME PARENT ERRANDS

There were a lot of times when our parents would send us to go and collect debts from people. I don’t know if it is just me but I usually get so afraid when my mom asks me to go collect debts from people, it is always so traumatizing for me, it is like telling me to enter into the fire.

I can’t tell exactly what I was scared of, maybe it was the reaction of who I was going to meet or it was the reaction my mom would give me if I failed to collect it. I remember how I would stay in the middle of the road, terrified of what might happen, hehe. Sometimes I even cry.

Also, whenever my mom tells me to return something for one reason or the other, I suddenly get afraid. My heart would start pounding like crazy, my mum would yell at me to go back and return it and I would stop in the middle of the road crying especially if the person I was to return the item to is very harsh.

I remember one time when I went to get milk, my mum asked me to return it and get a different brand and if she didn’t have that brand, I should collect the money back. I emotionally told my mom that the woman would not collect it because the woman was very hostile.

I was in fear while I was going, I couldn’t go any further so I stopped on the road to buy some time and returned home then told my mom that the woman didn’t collect it. My mom criticized the woman but unknowingly to me that she was going back to meet the woman.

She met the woman later day and the woman said that I didn’t come back to her. My mom was so angry, that she beat me for lying and told me to do a lot of chores, I regretted not returning it. I just kept crying while I was doing the chores. Still, that didn’t teach any lesson, anytime situations like this come around, my heart still pounds.

Even though I was little back then, I am still not comfortable with these things now, although I would do what I need to do. Let me know if you can relate to any of them.

We just did not want to do what we don't want to do. I used to avoid coming out to greet alot and I fake sleep too. But trust our parents, mothers especially, to stay in front of the guest and scream your name that so-so aunty/uncle is here.😂

Do I need to look up the meaning of the word trauma again? Lol. These things you shared are relatable. But I would not say they were traumatizing. Annoying would be the right word. Our parents were always on our nerves with these annoying acts and errands.

Hehe. Well, it can be in different form. It can be something extremely disturbing. Well, for me, it wasn’t just annoying, I was usually afraid and unsettled.

But you are right annoying might fit in well too.

Thanks for reading.

What an amazing write-up, I love it.

There were a lot of times when our parents would send us to go and collect debts from people. I don’t know if it is just me but I usually get so afraid when my mom asks me to go collect debts from people, it is always so traumatizing for me, it is like telling me to enter into the fire.

I dislike this part so much, going to ask someone for debt always makes me feel uncomfortable.

Thanks for sharing this.
