I walked in to the restaurant after a very hectic day. I was hungry and tired. I needed to fuel my tank (stomach) before boarding vehicle to my house is the next town.
I checked my pocket and what I have on me was only enough to eat a plate of rice without meat or fish.
As I entered the restaurant, I met my secondary school mate whom we've not met for five years since writing our final exams in secondary school.

As she sighted me entering, she stood up and hug me. We exchanged pleasantries and she introduced me to her friends with whom she was eating on the table.
The waitress came to take my order. I told her a plate of rice. Instead of her asking me of the details while standing with me, she went away and was asking me if I needed meat from a distance.

I said yes.
She brought the food with meats.
She asked again from a distance;
"Do you need cold coke?"
I responded yes. I didn't want to be seen a poor guy.
On the table of the girls were plates of meat, different brand of drinks among others.
The girls finished their meals and greeted me as they were going out.
With a smile of a "big boy", I responded and waved them goodbye.
Behold, I finished my meal and the waitress came for her money.
I asked her of the bill and I opened my mouth when I got the response from her.

I dipped hand into my pocket and I brought out the money on me.
I used the whole money to pay for the meal.
I went out before knowing what I have done in the name of impressing an old school mate.
I have to start trekking to my town of 6 kilometres away.
I started the trekking and was 1 kilometre into the journey when I saw another male friend going to the same town with me.
"Where are you going to?" he asked
"I am about boarding vehicle to go home" I responded.
"Please, wait for me" he requested
I accepted with joy in me. At least, he will pay my transport fare. That was how I became his escort going up and down the town.
Finally, he finished his visitations and after explaining how I pleased people to displease myself, he agreed to sponsor my transportation back home.
Since that day, I vow not to impress people at my detriment again. I nearly trekked 6 kilometres.

As a big boy should have actually just turned down the whole place and order food for everyone. in a country if you don't have money to pay for your food he would eventually be employed as a staff and then you wash plates for 2 days..
