It Can Be The Last White Heron Here

avatar

Today, I saw a white heron in a small lake near my house. I took my kid to school and found the heron was looking for some fish on the side of the lake.
In my area, the bird is very rare. You will not see the bird everytime in the lake or rice field. The heron in my language is called Burung Kuntul. This species is an endangered animal in my area. I think there are no more than 20 birds left.

When I was a kid, I often saw groups of birds in the rice field. They came during the day and would fly when the sun set.
Today, I only found one heron. It is common for birds to live in pairs. I think there should be a couple hiding.

In the lake , there are many small fish. It is a fishing spot. I also sometimes fish in the lake.

I took the photo from a very far distance, so the picture is not good enough. The bird would fly when there were people who got close to it.

Burung Kuntul, or Heron, likes to live in swamp areas like rice fields, lakes, and rivers. The width of the rice field has decreased sharply, so that the bird in the future will lose its habitat. In the next one or two years, the birds may migrate to better habitats or die. It is hard to see the bird still alive because there will be buildings here. That is very bad. The photo is a memory that there is a species of heron in the place where I live. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy it.

It really is sad that they will soon be gone 😢 Are there no environmentalists willing to fight for the herons?

This post has been manually curated by the VYB curation project 🙌 Keep up the great work!

No one care about the bird. The most destruction development is changing rice field into housing because most heron like to fish in the rice field. There are many small fish and frogs in the rice fields area. The lake is a small lake that many fishermen here.

That is true, we do not care about the nature so development becomes unfriendly

It is just sad how us humans keep destroying habitats for birds such as these.

I just hope we can still see White Herons in the future.

Great shots by the way man 😍

Thanks, I do not know why people develop housing in rice field. In fact, there are many farmers that should change their profession too. They will also lose their place to live like the heron. Changing job is not easy deal for people who live as farmers for years.
