Sanddorn ernten - Harvesting sea buckthorn --- EN/DE
EN
Hello everyone.
the most difficult thing about processing sea buckthorn might be picking it. The first time I tried to pick a sea buckthorn berry, I pricked myself several times and when I finally got it off, it was almost squashed.
♡
The thorns are really nasty, so I don't want to harvest the berries individually, perhaps with the help of a fork to loosen the fruit. But I have a much more effective trick for you:
♡
Depending on how close you have to step to the bush, please wear sturdy shoes and thick clothing as well as leather gloves, and also take care of your eyes, because it is not called sea buckTHORN for nothing. Otherwise, all you need is a pair of garden shears and a container for the harvest.
I first cut the branches with the fruit from the bush, then remove all the superfluous branches and cut them smaller for further processing. You can rinse the branches with water, then I put them in freezer bags and put them into the freezer. You can store them there until you need them, but they should be well frozen before processing.
♡
I then take the bags, place them on a hard non-sensitive surface and hit the frozen food in the bag with a wooden spoon or spatula, causing the berries to separate from the branches.
♡
Then I tip the contents of the bags into the sink together with water. The berries float to the top and can be skimmed off, while thorns and twigs remain at the bottom.
♡
Now you can process the berries further. You can make jam, liqueur or juice, whatever you like. I like to consume sea buckthorn as juice, which I prefer to use for 'hot sea buckthorn'.
♡
NOTE:
Anyone who collects sea buckthorn in nature should be sure to be able to identify it. This plant also resembles other.😉
I greet you all warmly with my first contribution to your community❣️

Hallo allerseits,

Vamos!

Oh what a pity, it's realy good and healthy. But I am sure you have many fruits I've never tried. Sometimes I see posts on Hive, with plants I haven't even heard about. 😉

Very curious this fruit, I have not had the opportunity to try it but its appearance makes me imagine a sour taste, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and also for your nice comment❣️
You've seen it very well, it's really sour and tart.
I guess you could possibly buy the juice on the Internet, if you like to try.
