STRANGE BUT TRUE

I've heard someone once say belief is everything, I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I've been a believer, and I can say that a person’s belief can shape their lives in ways that seem impossible. In 2016 I heard a man say he had not taken medicine for anything in over 35 years, he would often boast about it and I would imagine I could be like that. I used to be sickly before then and was secretly wishing for perfect health where I wouldn't have to worry about falling sick ever again.

I started by believing it and telling myself I could never be sick, I even stopped taking my medications and was hell-bent on holding on to my newly found faith. But soon enough I got sick, so sick that I nearly died because I stopped taking my medications. I was in my freshman year in the higher institution, and my roommates had to call my parents who were two states away because my condition was so severe. My mother had to take the next available bus while instructing my roommates to take me to The nearest hospital. The thing is we were all teenagers with no experience in handling emergencies.

At the end of the day, my mother came and I had to start taking my medications again at the hospital. I was so sad that my belief never worked for me, and was hell-bent on redoing it thinking probably I missed something. Well, I stopped taking my meds after I recovered and it wasn't long before I grew worse. But this time I hid myself and was ready to die if that was the requirement to end sickness. It was rainy that day when I got up with a high fever and decided to enter the rain. I didn't go far when I noticed I was already better. At this point, I wish I was bluffing, but it's the truth.

Ever since then, I went 7 years without medications until I had an accident that required them. I didn't fall sick or find the need to take even the smallest medicine. But after my accident, I knew somehow that things had changed like I had broken the Camel's back. Although I do not fall sick like before, the only sickness I've had to treat was typhoid. I've been dealing with mosquitoes a lot, but after going for a malaria test, it turned out I wasn't infected which still baffles me to date. Another person with this belief is my mother, and she holds it way stronger than I do now.

Well, they say what you believe is what works for you.
I just hope it works for you for a long time. And oh you should drink a lot of water , I heard it’s the greatest medicine ever.

Wow, this is new.
I'm a little like that man. There are people who have known me for many years and have asked if I ever fall down with an illness. The thing is, I do. But it doesn't make me take medications. I drink lots of water and sleep. Water is my therapy. I drink so much water, and because this mentality that water is my medicine has become a belief, I realize it always works.

Medicine has its place but so does healthy living, and a healthy lifestyle is the bedrock of good health! There is some good evidence that we need to look after our gut health first and to ensure that our gut microbiome has the right healthy bacteria, so we need to feed it what the good bacteria like to eat: cruciferous vegetables! Look up gut health and cruciferous veg. Thanks for the share!

The mind is a very powerful tool... However, when giving it command we need to change our lifestyle so it can work for us. Congratulations on being able to crack this code.
