Monetizing a Hobby - My story to tell.

When I started to connect the dots in my attempt to solve the puzzle of what truly counts as my hobby, it wasn't really hard to make a list of those things. The list of things that counts as my hobby is very clear and that's mostly because I don't enjoy overcomplicating something that's meant to be 'simple'.

The first time I tried to come up with a list of things that count as a hobby must have been back in elementary school when I was often made to write an essay about my hobbies. I wouldn't like to have a look at any of the essays I wrote back then. Lol. The sentences I made must have been laughable.

To be fair, I wasn't the biggest fan of those exercises. However, the more I did that, the more it enabled me to be mindful of my lifestyle. It was an opportunity to think and I've been able to learn so much about me and the things that pique my interest.

Over the years, I've been able to learn so much about myself and the list of hobbies I have are;

  • I love Football

  • I enjoy TV shows

  • I enjoy the study of Philosophy, History & Humanities

What should I do with all these hobbies? Is there any chance of monetizing these?

That has always been a big question for me and I think it's never uncommon to be faced with questions like that, especially if you are open about the hobbies you have and enjoy. I never had a clear idea of how to monetize any of my hobbies until I started a new adventure in the content creation industry.

To some degree, I can now say that every hobby I mentioned above are somehow connected to the fact that I'm now a content creator and anyone that have come across my work a couple of time knows that I create content about these things and thanks to the stuff we all enjoy doing on Hive, I now monetize my hobby.

premium_photo-1681589452811-513d1952077c~2.jpeg

Talk about football... We have several communities on the blockchain where I can generate football-related content and also curate similar content. I may get a penny out of that, but a penny is still something, right? Yeah!

We also have some things on the side like HIveFPL, HiveNaijaFPL and the Women's World Cup prediction tournament. Each of these allows participants to earn extra quid while doing what they love.

As for TV shows, I enjoy a nicely made tv show and I can bum around while watching those without necessarily feeling like a bum. You wanna know why? That's because I review those TV shows and I earn some quid from that. Feel free to check out some of my previous TV show reviews and look forward to more.

Is it easy to monetize these hobbies?

I don't particularly think there is anything 'easy' about being in the content creation industry. Even if I'm only focused on generating short-form content on Leothreads, D.buzz and some Zapfic stuff, that still won't be an easy thing to do.

I mean, take Hive for an example. Y'all know the amount of effort it takes to grow your profile on the blockchain and you know how consistent you have to be to grow your stakes. Even when you write what you will tag as your best post, you can never be sure of what you can earn from that. So, nothing about being in this industry is easy.

However, who on earth is having it easy? I've already been in the space where I had to do work that didn't have anything to do with my passion and I didn't enjoy working in that industry. Yet, I did it until I got an opportunity to sorta monetize my hobby.

My point is that it's not easy to monetize my hobbies, but I'm always glad that I'm one of those that can monetize the things I'm passionate about.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.

Haha, this got me smiling;

The sentences I made must have been laughable.

Good days but anymore as kids right now don't even know the fun aspect of writing a composition now that technology has taken over.

It is a good thing you got to monetize your hobby and I do agree it isn't easy but, the fun you get from doing them is all that matters.

You are spot-on. It isn't easy to monetize these hobbies, but it's preferable to do the work and stand a chance to monetize what I'm passionate about compared to doing a work that doesn't really suit my taste. It gets worse when the job isn't paying bills.

I believe that their likes might be difficult to monetize on the internet, using common social networks that often require insane numbers for us to be able to win something.

Now, the hive has become the perfect place for your tastes, because as you said, we have communities for just about everything here and they're a perfect fit for you! So, here is the right place for us to unite our tastes and fundraising!

This makes so much sense and the existence of Web3 Communities like the ones we have on Hive truly makes it easier for us to monetize these things we do.

Any attempt to do it outside of this space will take so much more resources. That's why I'm genuinely excited for this opportunity and I plan to make the best of it. Hehe.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this.

Indeed, all your blogs are mostly about your hobbies now that you've mentioned it 😃 it's cool.

I don't know why I think boring when I read about people liking things about philosophy and history. I mean, I don't think I can see that as a hobby but I guess it's me 😅

That's so true. The fact that we can monetize our activities on the blockchain makes it easier for us to never feel like we ate wasting time here.

If I didn't see football here then I might have to roll my eyes.

Thankfully you didn't disappoint. Well, nothing is truly easy here on the blockchain not anywhere else in the world, effort and consistency are the keys.

Football lover, isn't it Liverpool??🤣

It's not always easy to monetize hobbies but just as you have said, Hive has created a room for that; writing about your hobbies and earning money 🤑 by doing so. It might not be in millions but at least, you get to talk about what you love.

Yes ooooo. Hive had created the platform for us to monetize our skill and it's always a pleasure to see what we can eat here by consistently doing the things we enjoy. Hehe.

As you said nothing is easy in life we need to give effort if we want to earn something from any things doesn't matter how easy it seems from the outside.
I don't love football too much. I don't know why but I love to watch the world cup matches and I can explain pretending like a pro in football🤣🤣. It's my skill.

Good things never come easy. It takes perseverance and a great degree of consistency. Its a great thing that Hive is a forum where we can monetize our hobbies to an extent.

I can bum around while watching those without necessarily feeling like a bum

tell me about this😅. Sometimes watching movies make me feel lazy and inactive but then I remember that I can always make reviews, hehehe.

Very nice.
I'm trying to organize myself to post more often about my hobbies and try to monetize them somehow. Besides writing here on hive, I'm also researching other possibilities. But when we are starting it is difficult to arrive at an interesting value.

You are correct. The idea of monetizing our passion is something I really respect. Getting an alternative place to monetize your passion in addition to the things we do on Hive is also a very good idea.

Enjoy the adventure. Hehe

You're right about that. Who cares if it's a penny or not as far as you're doing something you love. But if you end up earning more than a penny, it's still a win-win yeah?

#dreemport brought me here Coach Ken🤗🌺

Yeah. It pretty much looks like a win-win situation for us especially with the consistent imbalance which exists between our local currency and USD.

Monetizing our passion and earning in a currency which is stronger than our local currency counts as a win too. Hehe.

It is understandable that some hobbies are hard to Monitise due to their simple or complex nature but it depends on your perspective of those hobbies of yours. Though hive as offered you a platform where you can discuss about stuffs that you enjoy but if you really enjoy watching football to an extent that you are accustomed with everything about it, you could become a sport analyst, it might not be on a major broadcast channel, probably analyse sport on your podcast or vlog.

I did philosophy in 300 level, I enjoyed it a lot, I guess that is when I got familiar with social contract theory of the likes of Thomas Hobbes e.tc but history that thing practical a source of boredom to me😅😅

Hobbies are meant to be what we do at ease and naturally for fun but if you do decide about capitalising on it, then it becomes complicated because you have to change the natural reason behind that hobby and the way you perceive it. From what you do for fun into what you do for money.

Yeah Bro. You have a very valid point about the punditry side of being a well informed football fan. That's something worth digging into and it's a skill that's monetizable.

I've heard many people talk about how boring History can be. Lol. I really don't know why it's such a boring topic for nany people 😂😂. In my case, I genuinely enjoy history. Haha
