Hilarious And Action-Packed —Review Of Murder Mystery 2 (2023)

Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are back with another hilarious and action-packed murder mystery! The first film, Murder Mystery released in 2019 was okay in an average way and I thought that was the end of it. I had no idea a sequel was in the works until it was released on 31st March! All the better, I love surprises.

In this sequel, Nick and Audrey Spitz (played by Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston respectively) start their private investigation agency and become full-time detectives. But things are not working as well as expected. They are nearly broke when they get a call from their wealthy friend, Vikram (played by Adeel Akhtar) who invites them over to a villa for his wedding to a French lady.

Nick and Audrey are excited and see this as an opportunity to grow their investigation agency. After settling into their lovely room, they dress up in Indian attire and join other guests for the wedding. As the funfair begins and it is time for the groom's entrance on a decorated elephant, the rider drops down dead with a cheese knife in his back.

It is discovered that the dead person is Vikram's bodyguard. Nick sees the whole confusing scene as a distraction from the main crime. He runs outside only to witness his friend Vikram's kidnapping. The police lock down the house and an external investigator is brought in to find the murderer. But all signs seem to be pointing to Nick and Audrey as more bodies drop dead.

Who is behind the killings and kidnapping?

Review

Unlike other typical whodunnits, I appreciate that Murder Mystery 2 is simple, fun and light-hearted. The director, Jeremy Garelick, did a fantastic job of not taking themselves too seriously and aiming for an entertaining watch.

Can I say this sequel is better than the first film? Yes. I enjoyed that the actors dove straight into the heart of the film —the murder and kidnapping. These crimes take the cast to the lovely city of Paris where the action becomes intense with car chases, shooting, and bombing. Unlike the first film where the cast was locked up in a mansion and they tried to figure out who the killer was.

The plot is engaging and holds viewers' attention. There was a bit of suspense, twists and turns that added to the film's delight. The scenes are fast-paced and action-packed right from the beginning to the end. The filmmakers gave viewers a taste of Indian culture and the beauty of Paris. There was not a single dull moment. The cinematography, visual effects and scenery are great.

A remarkable part of this film is that we get to see the return of some of the characters from the first film in addition to the new ones. The performance of the cast is outstanding.

The easy-going chemistry between the stars of the film, Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are fantastic and undeniable. It's like their performance is better in this sequel than in the previous film. They are in sync and feel like a real married couple. In my opinion, they make the perfect detective duo in this hilarious film.

The scenes I enjoy the most are the fight scene in a speeding van with the masked kidnappers and the final one at the Eiffel Tower. Lives and money are at stake, and adrenaline is high yet the cast injects some humour into the scenes.

Overall, I'll say Murder Mystery 2 is a delight; the kind of film you watch to unwind while enjoying the simple pleasures of a wild ride of laughter and entertainment.
