๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Steung Kach To Kampong Chhnang ๐Ÿ›บ Part 1 Of Another Phnom Penh Road Trip ๐Ÿจ

The whole family is headed to Phnom Penh to obtain a heap of documents that will be exchanged for one document, and then we will go home.

Trying Not To Get My Hopes Up ๐Ÿคž

cdcvfbg.png

ย  ย  ย We've got the washing machine in the back of the tuk-tuk with us on this trip, and it's due for a main drive bearing replacement and a new rubber door seal. We now have a routine that involves reaching Kampong Chhnang where we stay one night in the Samrongsen Wedding Reception Hall. This town is 350km from our house, and it's a perfect combination of the furthest I like to drive in a day, has a clean and relatively affordable place to sleep for a night, plus a place with an edible veggie fried rice.

adsfadsfasdf.png

ย  ย  ย My wife and I are hoping to get married again, but this time by Cambodian law because foreign marriages aren't accepted by the government here. I technically don't meet the requirements to marry my wife here, but we are foofing some documents and have a man on the inside, but I'm still not getting my hopes up until I see results. Well, either way we still bought some boiled corn along the road and embraced some of my Indiana culture while traveling 58km/h.

We Have Weird Hotel Tastes ๐Ÿ‘ฐ

vvvvvvv.png

ย  ย  ย I have a weird Cambodian hotel habit that I've passed onto my family, and it basically involves staying at places that aren't exclusively hotels. In Cambodia wedding parties generally take place all-inclusive places that have a ballroom or reception hall, most often several of them, and overnight rooms available for guests too drunk to drive or who have come from far away and need a place to sleep and rest up. I like renting rooms at these places because usually they are cheaper than hotel rooms of a similar quality and there are almost never any guests because the big focus is on catering the parties.

fvfbgbggb.png

ย  ย  ย At this particular wedding hall in Kampong Chnnang the reception hall and nightly rooms are separated from each other, unlike in the capital where usually the rooms are located directly above the reception hall. This night was the first time I have seen a party in the reception hall next to our usual place in Kampong Chhnang, but even though it's loud and a bit annoying, the pros outweigh the cons, wedding reception halls are always better than hotels, so there's your Cambodian travel hack my friends.

cdvf.png

ย  ย  ย Monkey-B & I marveled at the party for a while, then I asked her to go and hustle up some snacks. She quickly refused, then ran back in the room and tried to hide behind the curtain to scare me as I came in the door. Her fateful error was failing to realize that I can see her through the window from outside in the darkness, and her plan was a failure. I will always be the best scarer in this family, this rookie has so much to learn.

chewing corn while driving a tuk-tuk is indeed an exciting thing, so that we don't feel bored while driving or being a driver, especially if you are driving on that day 350 km of your journey that you have to drive, and the maximum speed is also 58 km per hour, ,

it seems that being a driver on that day is quite tiring,, maybe some of the scenery around the road or along the road that you are taking can spoil your eyes and that of your family,, it must be very interesting to wait for the next episode about your trip this time,, I will definitely be waiting next episode..haha...

Corn on the corb and three-wheeled speed ๐Ÿ˜‰. It is a bit tiring driving the tuk-tuk, mostly because it hurts my wrist to maintain full-throttle all day and the engine is very loud because it is diesel. We are back home now, so I hope to post again soon when I find time. Thanks for stopping by my friend.

This time, your shoulder view doesn't trick me to think you're doing 180kph on the speedometer anymore. However, it does feels like Top Gun: Maverick though.

In malay, Kampong is village. Sounded exactly like what we have here Kampong Chenang ๐Ÿคฃ that place looks comfortable despite the karaoke may last until 4am, with that distance I think it will be negligible after 3am when you finished your last upvote, you'll be knock out with or without the karaoke noise ๐Ÿคฃ

Super cute of monkey!

Perhaps we need Top Gun Helmets complete with microphones, after all, I am always struggling to hear what my wife says because the engine is so loud. She should also have a few co-pilot controls, perhaps the horn and winshield wiper button ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜†.

I think there are probably many words of Malay origin here because of the Cham people, but I don't know enough of Malay to which Khmer words come from them. Because the Khmers weren't traditionally an ocean-going people, and the Cham people came here by boat, I would suspect a lot of ocean-related words are of Malay origin.

I'd add a few more missile arming button at the back to trigger some reading LEDs and extra fans ๐Ÿ˜

Good luck with all the paperwork! Hoping it all turns out in your favour this time.

It is good to occasionally strike fear and terror into the hearts of our children to remind them we aren't old fart dinosaurs sometimes. We're back home now with 5% of the problem solved, I guess that's not bad considering the way things work here.

I'm excited about marrying your wife again. You're a true man sr! You are a responsible father a great provider and a loving husband.

Haha, turns out I don't need to marry her in Cambodia for the outrageous price because I am not eligible for the K-Visa just as I thought. Apparently the Ministry doesn't even know the law that well, or perhaps they just wanted our money. Either way, a last-ditch effort trip to the Immigration Department cleared up some issues, but I still need to leave, even if just for one day to Thailand.

Ultimately it seems I can arrange the E-Visa myself at the Immigration Department in the capital for much cheaper than visa agents in the future. It isn't quite clear what documents I'll need, but it's worth the effort because it will save me nearly $500 a year.

Luckily we didn't get married again because we found it grants me no additional rights and it won't help us immigrate to another country because we already have used our Suriname marriage certificate to start the USA immigration process almost 4 years ago. The guy at the Ministry didn't know what he was talking about and later admitted he knew little about the law, but only after taking our money. Luckily we didn't pay $1,200 for a 2nd useless marriage certificate, that high price is just to line the pockets of the bigshots.

Slow and steady in the tuk-tuk, and lots of picnic stops make it more fun.

There is a proverb adopted by Indonesians who says "Where the earth is stepped on, there the sky is upheld", which means where we are and are silent, we must be able to adjust to the culture, customs, and rules that apply.

You are a good citizen, able to adapt to the culture, character and rules that apply in Cambodia.

In our country, Indonesia is also like that, official marriage can only be done once, and it is done at the office of the department of religion, and as proof a marriage book will be given.

And if someone has the desire to add another wife, the man must have written permission from the first wife, after that he is allowed to hold an official marriage with the second wife.

For those who carry out unregistered marriages, alias not officially at the office of the Ministry of Religion, it is permissible to carry out an official re-marriage so that they are recorded and get a marriage book.

We are Indonesians, getting legally married at the office of the Ministry of Religion is very important, considering that the marriage book that is issued is very important for the future of our children.

I hope that you will soon receive proof of a valid marriage in Cambodia, and that the insider you are referring to does not disappoint you and sincerely helps you.

I'm sorry my friend, if in the past few weeks I have rarely commented, I have reasons that I cannot possibly tell here, what is certain is that my prayers are always with you and your family.

Yes, I like that in your country a process can be done to acknowledge a foreign marriage certificate so that a certificate from your country can be made. Here in Cambodia the government will only accept a Cambodian marriage certificate, and because of this law the government can charge any price they want for the certificate, in my case $1,200 USD, about one year's of savings. In Suriname we got married for $10 USD ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜†.

I love eating corn too Justin in fact I ate corn this afternoon while driving too... Haha. While seeing your cover photo I was laughing because I did just that๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
Corn is one of my comfort food.

Were you eating corn in car or on a moto? I think it could be a potential mess in a car ๐Ÿ˜…. The tuk-tuk can easily be hosed down, so if I am a messy corn eater it's okay.
