Unleashing My Inner Explorer

Change breeds positivity. It is an inevitable part of our lives. Change is a fuel for personal growth and development. At one point in our lives, we find ourselves in situations where we have to change something about ourselves. It could be on any subject; relationships, financial status, and even decisions. Without change, we can be stagnant and stuck in a loophole of the old patterns that are no longer beneficial for us. As humans, it is important to embrace change and open up to new possibilities.

SELF IMPROVEMENT

Self-improvement is when you decide to “actively” change something about yourself. It is often for a positive outcome. It's the beginning of a new year, and as I take a quick trip down memory lane, I realize there's something I should change about myself. I took a few minutes to reflect on the aspect of my life that I would love to change.

WHAT WOULD I LOVE TO CHANGE ABOUT MYSELF?

If there's one thing I am determined to give up this year, it is the habit of staying indoors and missing out on the joy and excitement of outdoor activities. I wouldn't call myself an introvert. You see, it is quite complicated. I'm an introvert, but I exhibit the characteristics of an extrovert. I talk a lot when I'm with “my guys.” Also, I don’t have an issue making friends with strangers. I easily flow and roll with new people. But you see going on outings, nahh, that’s just not my thing. I’ve always been like this. I always use every opportunity I get to stay indoors. To a point, it is cool to enjoy the comfort and coziness of being indoors. It is not always entirely boring because it is a better way to relax, peace, and enjoy indoor activities like reading, watching movies, playing video games, or doing other things.

Don’t judge me for being an indoor person. It is not like I channeled myself to be this way. Growing up, my parents never allowed me to play outside because we lived in a rough neighborhood and they were worried about my safety. The kids were rough and uncultured. My parents cared about my safety so they didn’t allow me to go outside. I spent lots of time indoors doing different activities. The only I get to go outside is when I go to school or church activities. On many occasions have I turned down outing offers from my friends just because “outing is not my thing.”

Last semester, a friend of mine asked me to go on an outing. At first, I agreed to go. For the first time since I got to the university, I wanted to do something fun. Sadly, my “indoor spirit” took advantage of me and I canceled out r at the last minute. I had to apologize to my friend and thank goodness I’m good at making up excuses. I’m glad what I did didn’t ruin our friendship.

WHAT STEPS WILL I TAKE TO ENSURE THAT I DON’T STAY INDOORS ALWAYS?

Don’t quote me wrong, I’m still an indoor person. I don’t think anyone can completely change that. I enjoy staining indoors. However, I have discovered that there are lots of fun things to do outside. My social life is going down the drain. I need to do something about it completely. I’m going to change this part of myself. Step by step. Baby steps.

For starters, I've decided to get out of my comfort zone and go on an outdoor adventure with my friend! We're going to hike up a mountain together. Although I’m a little bit nervous about it, I’m sure I’ll get a hang of it. It would not be nice to cancel out this time. I'm not used to doing things like this, but I'm ready to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I think it’s going to turn out great.

Also, I’m making a conscious effort to get out of my comfort zone and do more outdoor activities with my friends this semester. My goal is to go on at least one outdoor activity per month. I just hope everything will go my way.

Thanks for reading.

Just like you, it's one of the things I'm trying to do and my job is one key factor that's helping me have some social life presently, because at least I attend different social functions of colleagues and friends, and that took me out unlike how I'm mostly the complete indoor type in the past.

I wish you all the best in making this possible.

Hello, Sir Vic. I find it hard to believe that you're an introvert. Haha. Good luck with it.

I'm an introvert, but I exhibit the characteristics of an extrovert.

That means you are in between, which makes you an ambivert. That’s my type of personality too.

You should actually work on it, life is actually beautiful and fun and you should explore it. However, you will feel like you don’t belong in most spaces when you go out, just try to observe and watch. With time, you should blend in. I have not been able to, but I do well with people I know very well.

Ambivert? Yeah. I've read this word somewhere. With time, I'll blend in. Thanks for stopping by.

Staying Indoor is just too bad but sometimes it can't be helped, the zeal is there to go out and have fun but the body won't move an inch😂. This will be a great change

Haha. Staying indoors is fun, but I've been missing a lot outside. Thanks for stopping by.

Your introverted personality is not that bad compared to mine, at least you still relate with people. Going for outdoor activities is good and adventurous but so is staying indoors sometimes 😅. It is hard to give up the habit of staying indoors because it is something you have gotten used to, more like your type of comfort zone.

I will love to go out more too but I still so much enjoy my habit of staying indoors 😅
