All You've Got In This World...

xd3.png

I arrived home safe and sound earlier this afternoon...

And after a quick unpacking of the truck, my wife followed me into the city where I had to meet face to face with the company that has been giving me so much grief over the past few months.

The wheels are in motion for me to get compensated for my time in the company and I hope it all works out.

I'll be sure to keep you guys updated on the progress and of course, the new challenges ahead in my new career. Good thing is, I've got an interview first thing in the morning with a...GASP...Reputable trucking company! They do exist :)

This entire experience actually gave me quite the life lesson, and like I do from time to time...My experiences, turn into a blog post lol

So the company I worked for, has been in business for over a decade. Not really the longest running company out there, but it does have some years under it's belt. When I sat down with the owner a few weeks ago, I shared with him the story of how my own company fell on hard times, first through the PayPal fiasco. And then trying to rebuild during COVID.

We shared experiences and I remember him saying to me...

"You know how it is in business!"

Actually...No. I don't and let me explain.

You see, being in business for yourself is hard. There are no guarantees. I always said being an entrepreneur meant you went to work for 80 hours a week sometimes for the chance, not the guarantee in income.

Peaks and valleys happen. It's a roller coaster and you have to play the game. Which means, things don't always go your way. There are no guarantees, and sadly this is why many people fail at building their own business because just that....There are no guarantees.

But here's what you have, no matter what crap gets thrown at you along the way.

You have your word!

And when I met with this guy in his office a few weeks ago, he looked me in the eye and shook my hand. While promising that pay checks would be coming each and every week going forward.

Not only did they not come, but the check I did get...Bounced lol

You see, that was the last straw for me. Not because of the issues with the pay. Things happen. I get it. Sure they could have handled things better but that wasn't the final nail in the coffin for me. To me, it came down to his word. And I simply did not trust it anymore.

This is the lesson....And I REALLY hope any of you thinking of building a business will remember this because it can potentially save your career.

All you have, is your word.

And once you lose that trust people have in what you say, that's it. It's finished.

The peaks and valleys will come. Sometimes you may have to make the hard call, just for the love of everything that's good...Be upfront and be a man or woman of your word!

Because again, at the end of the day...When everything is settled....It's all you will ever have and all you will ever be able to control!

As man/woman got to be able to stand on our words. Although this can be easier said that done in reality.

But I think it shouldn't be the same in business because business is business and you've got to kind your business - same as your words. If he's unable to pay you he should at least be honest about it instead of making empty promises.

I hope things turns out better moving forward.

Was talking to my wife about that tonight...He could have easily said, he look, we can't pay you what you are expecting, but work with us, and i'll make sure you get X amount every week.

I would have done that in a heart beat, if I could have just trusted his word.

I guess there no going back now…because it’s still not assured that you’ll get the X amount if he ever made such promises.

Wow! Thanks for sharing this content with us, I guess you're right with your point of view either man or woman we should be able to stand on our own without getting help from anyone thou it hard to run things on your own without help but I guess it much better if can explore from others to build ourselves in the right path

Nothing wrong with getting help from people. I know I've needed it in the past for sure.

Trust is something that is hard to get back. I don't think any company that has so many issues is something that you should stick too and especially so if a check bounces. They need to make sure that there is money in their accounts and I think it's more of a fraud if they aren't. I hope you are at least able to get back some of that money and you are able to land a job with a more reputable company.

I think trust building takes years but often we find that when pushed to the edge we end up having the issues with the life in general. Sometimes just walking away when the trust is broken is the key there. That is what I have learned.

In a split second, all trust can be lost. We need to have big value in our words. Treat them like gold.

Yours are great words but unfortunately this is being lost, there are fewer and fewer people like that. Nowadays lying and posturing are legal tender and the worst thing is that it seems that society does not punish it.
The word given is no longer honored.

Sad isn't it?

Yeah that's the way of the world it seems now.

I think one's word is the only thing people can hold on to and if one is not truthful about it, they become an unreliable person. In business, being reliable can take one very far amidst the ups and downs.

Hard to do business with anyone like that for me.

It is very important to be mindful of how you make promises to people. And that is why I tell people that they should not promise what they cannot provide
Nice article and I'm glad that your wife followed you

I mean, things happen. But if we always try to make sure our word is bond, we'll be ok

I always try to do my best to be a man of my word. There are times that things pop up that don't allow me to keep my word and that always drives me crazy. I think people understand in those cases for the most part, but it still bugs me. I don't like giving that impression.

Yeah for sure. Things happen. But after time and time again you have to question it lol
