My Dog Ate The Neighbor's Chicken - Now What?

The other evening, my father and I were relaxing at our residence when we suddenly caught sight of a thunderous commotion emanating from the outdoors. We saw that Peron had eaten a neighbor's chicken. Uh oh, trouble.

By the way, Peron is my dog's name. My younger sis gave him that name after seeing that we couldn't come up with any...I don't even know what Peron means but I think it is cool.

DID PERON EAT THE CHICK.png

The neighbor came over, yelling, "Your dog ate my chicken! What will we do?" My dad said sorry, but the guy was so angry. I was worried. Peron had feathers in her mouth. I took her inside to avoid more trouble.

My dad spoke to the neighbor, saying, "I'm sorry. I'll pay for the chicken." The guy said okay, but warned us to be careful with Peron.

Dad paid the guy. Since then, we've kept Peron chained up all the time. She's like a prisoner. We leash her anytime she goes out. It's frustrating for her, but we have no choice.

Some might ask, "Why chain your dog?" We do it to protect ourselves. We can't risk another chicken incident. It's tough, but necessary.

Sometimes I look at poor Peron all chained up and I just feel terrible about it. It feels like we are not treating her well.

However, in the long run, it is necessary for her benefit and ours. We cannot take the chance of her consuming anything that is not ours - it would only lead to more complications. I understand that some of you may feel we are being too strict with Peron. But please try to see things from our perspective, alright? It is quite challenging to have to constantly monitor your pet's actions. We do not derive pleasure from it either. But we must do whatever is necessary to prevent further problems.

To be honest, the whole situation makes me realize how demanding it can be to have a canine companion. It involves more than just playing and giving treats. There is a great deal of responsibility in ensuring that your dog does not create issues with your neighbors or get into mischief. If you own a dog yourself, you can probably relate.

That is the current situation between me and Peron. We've got her chained up 24/7 for everybody's protection. My dad paid the neighbor for the chicken, so hopefully that's the end of that drama. I just pray Peron doesn't find some other way to stir up more trouble. It's going to make me stressed every time she's outside.

Has anyone ever found themselves in a similar predicament with their furry companion? I would be extremely intrigued to learn about your encounters and how you coped with them.

As a canine caregiver, it can be quite challenging to navigate such complex scenarios. Sometimes, it appears as though we are just trying to keep peace, yet it frequently has consequences - for both ourselves and our beloved furry friends. I think many of you can relate to the struggle of wanting to give your pet liberty and joy, while also considering the possible outcomes of their actions. It would be fantastic to get some advice or even just some empathy from other dog owners who have encountered comparable circumstances.

I constantly find myself treading a delicate line, attempting to act in the best interest of Peron while also safeguarding our household and our rapport with the neighbors. It is an ongoing juggling act that does not always offer a straightforward resolution. However, hearing about how others have navigated through these kinds of obstacles could certainly offer me some fresh perspectives to ponder. Therefore, if you have any insights to offer, I am all ears! I am hopeful that we can overcome this without any further complications, for the well-being of everyone involved.

One of the reasons why we leave our dog outside is because of those ticks on dog...We wash the dog regulary but it doesn't stop coming back.

I'd get tick or flea treatment for the dog. Our dogs are part of the family. I couldn't chain a dog up all day. Sorry but it's cruel in my eyes.

I understand the reaction of your neighbor, most people in his shoes will act same way especially for someone who hasn't any dog in his or her home .

I suggest you chain Peron during the day time and free her at night.

So sorry for all the hard time with your pet 🤗

So you know that your suggestion was exactly what we did until one early morning the neighbour came knocking on our door to report that the dog went to their cage at night and took one of his chick.
The dog had taken the chick to somewhere else that we wouldn't easily notice and that was where it ate the chick. At first we wanted to argue with the neighbours, but seeing the feathers made us realise that they weren't lying. On top tha Matter, they threated to pison the dog if they ever saw it close to their cage and that's the reason why we decided to chain it 24/7😞

Oh no! You guys don't have a gate? It should have been easier with a gated house

Yes, we don't.
It would have been easier if our compound has a gate.

Oh poor Peron, if only she knew she was going to chained, I am sure she wouldn't have eating that chicken.

Though chaining her is actually the best way to protect both her and your peace.

Oh No! Sorry you are going through this. I never had a dog before so I can't relate. Peron too should stop eating the neighbors chick. If only we could just talk to them and they will understand us.
