We Are Alive! June 12th, 2024 50th

Today concludes our count to "50" when we celebrate the fiftieth day from the "morrow after the Sabbath". Christian tradition calls this Pentecost, but more accurately it's called "Shavuot" or "Weeks". It's called this because we count seven sevens or "weeks" (49) and the day after that is fifty! To keep track of the days, the children made little cards that we take down each night. We didn't keep this up perfectly, but it did help in the accounting of time.

Since the "morrow after the Sabbath" is always a Sunday on our modern calendar, traditionally Pentecost is always on Sunday, but we count from the 16th day of the first month, since the 15th is the first Sabbath of unleavened. This is how this day falls on a Wednesday on our modern calendar.

This particular holiday is tricky to figure out, since no specific commandments are given outside of the land of Israel, and all commandments in the land require a Temple and priesthood. So we mark this time by observing it as a Sabbath, and read appropriate scripture to honor the day.

Just as the "firstfruits" of the first month are for the Barley harvest, the "firstfruits" of Pentecost are for the Wheat harvest. We observe it on the 6th day of the 3rd month. But strangely enough, it seems too early for a wheat harvest! This requires further investigation.

Observing a Sabbath in the middle of the week is odd for us, but we figure this is one way to mark the time. We also made blueberry cheesecake, borrowing from the Jewish tradition of eating dairy and sweets on this day. It's supposed to remind us of the land flowing with MILK and HONEY.

It was a sweet and restful day, in the middle of the week. Now it's back to it before the weekly Sabbath!

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.
