Putin critic jailed in treason case for 25 years - does this amount to human right violation or not?
Hello Deep Dives platform! It's a beautiful day to be here with you to share news about Russia and how the Russian government is treating critics of Putin's invasion of Ukraine. Good evening!
One of the instruments used by the Putin's administration to silence opposition or pro-Ukraine supporters is to through laws passed by the Russian parliament to fight free speech against Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
As a lover of free speech, I believe that free speech should be said without hate and should be said from a free conscience but arresting people for making their point known to the government isn't bad on its own.
One of the recurrent happenings since the war in Ukraine started early last year has been to discourage criticisms from opposition politicians. Today, a pro-Ukraine supporter known as has been sentenced to 25 years jail term for criticizing Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
A stats prosecutor during the judgement of requested the court to give him a 25 years prison term for discrediting the Russian military and criticizing Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
"Discrediting" the army can currently be punished by up to five years in prison, while spreading deliberately false information about it can attract a 15-year jail sentence.
Casting the conflict in Ukraine as an existential struggle with the West, Russian pro-government politicians say unity across society is vital. They have described Russian citizens who question Moscow's actions in Ukraine as part of a pro-Western fifth column trying to undermine the military campaign.
After hearing his sentence on Monday, Kara-Murza, who was calmly listening to proceedings inside a glass courtroom cage dressed casually in a jacket and jeans, said "Russia will be free", a well-known opposition slogan.
Kara-Murza, 41, a father of three and an opposition politician who holds Russian and British passports, spent years speaking out against President Vladimir Putin and lobbied Western governments to impose sanctions on Russia and individual Russians for purported human rights violations.
Looking at human rights violation in Ukraine, I'll say that both warring states have committed human rights abuses that needs to be attended to by the International Court of Justice for war crimes charges. Although arresting and prosecuting an individual for speaking his mind about the current war in Ukraine isn't democratic at all, so the Russian government should release Kara-Murza to his people.
In his final words after the trail he said:
"Criminals are supposed to repent of what they have done. I, on the other hand, am in prison for my political views. I also know that the day will come when the darkness over our country will dissipate," he had said.

How you treat your anti-war protesters actually says a lot about your country. The United States and the pro Soviet lead peace movement, as well as the government intelligence agencies were actually committing proxy war in the United States.
That's the main reason why the left is aligning with communism. And what about human rights.... Are anti war protesters being attacked and jailed in the Soviet dream? Secret police? The world view that Russian federation and the leadership of it is ok... Needs to change.
They refuse the rules of war and of humanity.
Sanctions until the leadership resigns for the international criminal court. Until Russia rejoins ALL nuclear weapons treaties and begins nuclear power disarmament...
Russia is going to have to submit to the world. And the cost of rebuilding Ukraine and paying the world back after the previous default on the ww2 loans. Thats the reason the spviet dream collapsed. They couldnt pay thier debt. Same reason china has to pay its lend lease debt to america as well by buying american debt. Do you think china is going to buy our debt willingly? Why donthey do it? Its paper. it actually doesn't exist other than to pay down some of the interest. China borrowed enough military equipment that they were able to successfully push Japan out in world war II and have only paid about 10% of the initial principle. Thats why the beef... China is forever in debt. And Taiwan is needed. They pay thier debts in pure highest best computer chips in the world... Cant remember where they are at however they are wanting American business by also supporting the international defense contracting industry in America. They want everything expensive for its military.
Russia couldnt pay its loans.. The cold war was a fight over the repayment of lend lease to china and russia.. They stiffed the usa and the world banking system.
This is a cumulation of that. The greatest minds tactics and the coalition equipment is finally getting used. however russia is at the goal post. Its expended its army. Its on the ropes getting struck and infrastructure hits like today are regular accurate and precise military targets.
The outcome? Is Russia going to throw a temper tantrum and launce and destroy the world over losing another conventional war along with its world image and 182,000+ souls.. Or is putin getting retired to China? Is china goong to strike and steal the Siberian oilfields and begin its part in world war 3?
Or will Russia surrender for humanitarian aid shortly after being sanctioned and cut off by world trade.
Give Taiwan and Ukraine the weapons they ask for. Give them a good rate. Allow NATO lend lease and let Ukraine beat the Russians. This next offensive is going to be big. Russian red army assets is dwindling.

In the West you get censored and jailed for criticising the ever expanding and more and more ludicrous woke globalist agenda, in Russia for criticising Putin and the Ukraine War.
I know which one is simpler to deal with and keep out of trouble while living a normal life.
Wartime restrictions on freedom of speech are commonly used in the West too.
I'm not sure that either side is any worse than the other in this respect.
