Citizens resort to unhealthy options for drinking water and crypto news

The economic condition of some countries is nothing to write home about and that includes my country’s economy too.

With everything happening in Nigeria, the hike in price has left Nigerians in pain and Nigerians have been forced to resort to unhealthy options for drinking water.

Over here we have bottled water and sachet water. The bottled water is more expensive than the sachet water, in simple terms while everyone can afford sachet water not everyone can afford bottled water.

Sachet water is commonly referred to as 'pure water' and like the name implies it is water that is stored in a sachet for consumption by the general public.

With the hike in the price of commodities in my country, nothing was spared and as such sachet water was also not left out of the equation as it was greatly affected. Sachet water used to be one of the most affordable things in my country as it was very cheap and the large population of the country consumes it. An average person can drink up to 6-8 sachets of water a day depending on his or her system and what they eat. Each sachet water weighs 50cl meaning that a very thirsty person can consume two sachets of water at a go and can repeat this process again and again in a day.

Over the years the price of sachet water has changed and currently, the price has gone up to 50 naira. A bag of sachet water that contains 20 sachet water is sold at 500 naira and it is crazy as early this year a bag was still sold at 300 and with the way things are going it might even increase before the end of this month.

An average Nigerian who consumes 6-8 sachets of water a day would be spending a lot and this is just for an individual, when you include the whole family the amount is outrageous and you are expected to buy this sachet water every day and some days even more.

Due to the hike in price, many Nigerians have resorted to different unhealthy options for drinking water and it's alarming.

People now fetch water from wells and boreholes to drink not minding the condition of the tank or well, everyone just wants to survive. Sachet water which was seen as the cheapest commodity in the country is gradually turning into a luxurious item and it's crazy.

Health practitioners in the country are worried about the health of Nigerians and are calling on the Government to do something.

Just like every other challenge in the country, we all shall adapt and move on without anyone coming to our rescue.

On crypto news. The Nigerian government continues to chase irrelevant issues, blaming Binance for causing inflation in Nigeria.

According to them, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) received news that money laundering and terrorism financing were carried out on Binance and many other activities causing the devaluation of the Naira and thereby causing the hike of the price of commodities in the country.

As a result of their fruitless investigation they first started by detaining two Binance officials then demanding Binance to offer the 6-month transaction data of the top 100 Nigerian users on Binance.

The government may have gotten to Binance and Coinbase and stopping Nigerians from buying and selling USDT but resilient Nigerians have moved on quickly to other exchanges like Kucoin, Mexc Exchange, Bybit(which I think Nigerians use the most).

I can say for sure that the government might get to these other exchanges but only time can tell if these are temporary solutions or a means to a wider problem and as it stands now even after the shutdown of Binance P2P the country’s legal tender still seems to be in shackles.

Crypto has come to stay in Nigeria and the government needs to understand and accept it.

You'll pass for a brilliant reporter. I can't help but imagine you with the mic and camera on your face, doing a lot better than those reporters on channels who have nothing else to report but celebrities when there are real life issues staring us in the face.
