A MISSED MATRICULATION

Today happens to be the matriculation day for the freshers in school of which I should have been a part of but then the moment I noticed it wasn’t compulsory, I just wasn’t interested in it but then I was interested in seeing it for myself so I decided to go to the venue. The moment I saw the crowd, I knew I had to go home, lol. Most of the freshers invited their friends and families and we have over 500 freshers and you can imagine the crowd they must have commanded as some of them were able to invite everyone they knew.

Since I was a direct entry student, my classes are taken more seriously so I didn’t have enough time to worry about getting a matriculation gown and engaging in all the matriculation fun. Well, some of my friends had plans of celebrating it so I was going to just stay and celebrate with them but for some reasons I just could not. At some point I even felt like I wasn’t a student because I’m yet to complete most of the steps that will make me one.

Today was supposed to be our practical classes but somehow the lecturers did not come and they had to cancel the class for the whole day. Last night I couldn’t get good sleep so I was having headaches and I was contemplating on whether to stay for the matriculation celebration or just go home and rest. Well in the end I made up my mind to just go home and rest.

These are some photos I took of how the event venue looks like on a normal day and how it looks like today. I could see the excitement on most of the freshers faces and I do feel like I’m missing out but somehow I still just feel like I have to just miss out this time. I wasn’t prepared for a matriculation celebration and I didn’t even tell anyone about it until now because I just didn’t want to be a part of it so I don’t add to my stress.

A friend of mine even invited me to come eat since her mom was coming with some food to celebrate but I was feeling really tired so I just had to let her know I won’t be able to make it there. I’m definitely going to hear all about how it all went tomorrow and I’m sure it would be eventful. Now I’m just going to look forward to when I graduate and that is about 3 years from now.

Congratulations on your matriculation. I think you were indifferent to the event because you are not new to tertiary education having acquired the qualification that got you into the direct entry. I had that experience with some friends a few years ago.
