4 Years of Jail For OneCoin's Legal Boss

The 42-year-old Irina Dilkinska who was the former head of legal and compliance for the OneCoin scheme turning out to be a multibillion-dollar fraud scheme has been sentenced to jail for the period of four years after she admitted to helping launder millions of dollars.

Irina Dilkinska was jailed on Wednesday for four years by United States District Judge Edgardo Ramos, as per an April 3 statement from the United States Attorney's Office.

She was sentenced to one month of supervised release in addition to a four-year prison sentence and ordered to give up $111 million in compensation.

Dilkinska's request to avoid jail time and return home to take care of her young children in Bulgaria was denied by Judge Ramos according to reports.

According to Judge Ramos, Dilkinska was “a woman of great intelligence and a woman who ought to have known better,” and he also added that she was fully aware of the legal consequences of her actions involving operating the Ponzi scheme of $4 billion.

In a Manhattan federal court on Nov 10, Dilinska pled guilty to money laundering charges and wire fraud and each charge carried a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison, meaning that she faced the possibility of getting an imprisonment of 10 years.

Dilinska is the latest executive for OneCoin to get a jail sentence for their role in the fraud scheme.

Karl Sebastian Greenwood, the co-founder of the scheme, was ordered to pay $300 million in restitution and received a 20-year prison sentence for fraud and money laundering on September 12 of last year.

OneCoin was founded in 2014 by Ruja Ignatova and Greenwood promising guaranteed returns to investors from a fake crypto called OneCoin.

However, later it was revealed the firm had never built a functioning blockchain and rather operated as a pyramid scheme making its money by paying commissions to investors to onboard a constant stream of new buyers.
