My experience during the Kid’s holiday.
My holidays probably aren’t like many people in here. We don’t celebrate Christmas because we aren’t christians. However, if I am writing this text at almost 11pm it means something. I live in Canad, today and tomorrow are holidays in here (Christmas and boxing day). Despite not celebrating it I am not working during these two days. In addition I don’t work next Monday ( January 1st). In theory I would have three work days this week, but I decided to take 3 days as paid vacations. Why? My youngest daycare isn’t opening the whole week and my oldest also has a school break. Why not stay with the family for a whole 10 days?
Minhas férias provavelmente não são como muitas pessoas daqui. Não celebramos o Natal porque não somos cristãos. No entanto, se estou escrevendo este texto quase às 23h, significa algo. Moro no Canadá, hoje e amanhã são feriados aqui (Natal e Boxing Day). Apesar de não celebrar, não estou trabalhando nestes dois dias. Além disso, não trabalho na próxima segunda-feira (1º de janeiro). Em teoria, teria três dias de trabalho esta semana, mas decidi tirar 3 dias de férias remuneradas. Por quê? A creche do meu filho mais novo não está aberta durante toda a semana, e o mais velho também está de férias escolares. Por que não ficar com a família por 10 dias inteiros?
My wife planned that during each day we are supposed to do something, so we already did a lot! On Saturday, we had to do some groceries shopping since we needed to stock some food and other things that we were going to use it during this week. Yesterday, we went to the YMCA, it is like a club for those who don’t know what it is (yes the same from the classic Village People’s classic), more specifically to the swimming pool. Kids had lots of fun and we went after that to their favorite place, McDonalds. We usually don’t like to give them junk food because we prefer vegetables and more healthy food, but we give them that almost 360 days a year, so why not during this week escape a bit from that? Also my wife made cookies with them, they enjoy adding colores sprinkles on top of the cookies to decorate them. In addition it was sleepover night with mom and dad. We brought the inflatable mattress to our bedroom and they slept with us. It went a bit wrong since I got the wrong one that was leaking air. Around 12am I saw that it was completely empty! But they were still sleeping so I didn’t bothered them. Today all the city is closed because of christmas day. I made some barbecue, despite of being winter was a nice sunny day under 3oC so I could go to the backyard with a jacket to grill some steaks. I played also some domino with my oldest also in addition of playing a bit of everything with both of them, including dolls. During evening we got our car to drive around the neighborhood to check all the decorations of Chirstmas . There was a house with even a small train , crazy. Tomorrow we are planning to go to the movie theatre to watch a kid’s movie. There is a new movie about a duck family that is migrating the name is called “Migration” . Let’s see how it goes.
Minha esposa planejou que durante cada dia deveríamos fazer algo, então já fizemos bastante! No sábado, tivemos que fazer compras de supermercado, pois precisávamos estocar alguns alimentos e outras coisas que usaríamos durante esta semana. Ontem, fomos ao YMCA, é como um clube para quem não sabe o que é (sim, o mesmo da clássica música do Village People), mais especificamente para a piscina. As crianças se divertiram muito e depois fomos para o lugar favorito delas, o McDonald's. Normalmente, não gostamos de dar a elas fast food, porque preferimos vegetais e alimentos mais saudáveis, mas damos isso a elas quase 360 dias por ano, então por que não escapar um pouco disso durante esta semana? Minha esposa também fez biscoitos com elas, adoram colocar confeitos coloridos em cima dos biscoitos para decorá-los. Além disso, foi noite de dormir com mamãe e papai. Levamos o colchão inflável para o nosso quarto e elas dormiram conosco. Deu um pouco errado, pois peguei o errado que estava vazando ar. Por volta das 12h, vi que estava completamente vazio! Mas elas ainda estavam dormindo, então não as incomodei. Hoje a cidade toda está fechada por causa do dia de Natal. Eu fiz um churrasco, apesar de ser inverno, estava um dia ensolarado agradável com cerca de 3°C, então pude ir para o quintal com um casaco para grelhar alguns bifes. Também joguei dominó com minha mais velha e, além disso, brinquei um pouco de tudo com ambas, inclusive com bonecas. Durante a noite, pegamos o carro para dar uma volta pelo bairro e verificar todas as decorações de Natal. Havia uma casa com até um pequeno trem, incrível. Amanhã estamos planejando ir ao cinema para assistir a um filme infantil. Há um novo filme sobre uma família de patos que está migrando chamado "Migration". Vamos ver como será.
So now it is explained why I am writing my article now , late night. It is the only time that I found to get into this post. So my conclusion is that my holidays are being productive. Kids are happy and having all the family experience with them. I guess that is important, many times in my childhood I think that I missed that, and that was brought with me to my adulthood. Being a father or mother isn’t only about just generating your prole and giving orders how they should make their future. It is about being there to them and make then knowing that you will be always there if they need.
Então, agora está explicado por que estou escrevendo meu artigo agora, tarde da noite. É o único momento que encontrei para me dedicar a este post. Minha conclusão é que minhas férias estão sendo produtivas. As crianças estão felizes e vivenciando toda a experiência familiar com elas. Acredito que isso é importante; muitas vezes, na minha infância, acho que perdi isso, e isso me acompanhou até a vida adulta. Ser pai ou mãe não é apenas gerar sua prole e dar ordens sobre como devem construir seu futuro. É estar presente para eles e fazer com que saibam que você estará sempre lá se precisarem.

Taking healthy food is good but sometimes taking fast/junk food is not bad either because sometimes we need to think about happiness also and it won't create too much impact on health also. Keep enjoying the holidays.

Very interesting dear friend.. Though you didn't enjoy the privilege when you were young you decided to make it up for your kids. It's important they go outside and see the beauty around were they live. The choice of your diet for you and your kids for the holidays is almost thoughtful of you, it's good to switch these diets sometimes and not only dwell on a specific kind of food for long..

We are also not celebrating Christmas as we are also not Christian.
It's winter here and schools are closed for winter vacation. We got two days to spend with family (on Sundays and Monday).

I love the fact that you chose to spend this time with them. When faced with work and everything else, it's so easy to put things like this off. Always saying "next time" or "next year". But time flies so fast and the next thing we know, the kids are grown and out of our hair, and it's then we realize that we missed so much time with them.
I can bet you that in the years and decades to come, little moments like these that seem tiny will be what they remember. This memories will bring a sense of deja vu and probably a tear or two. Because you might not know it yet, but it's possible you just created the best Christmas ever for your kids.
